Discover Židlochovice: Výhon, cycling route and castle park

Židlochovice combines landscape, cycling, culture and regional wine traditions into a diverse destination in Moravia. The Výhon Nature Park is particularly characteristic. It encompasses the entire Výhon massif, covering approximately 1,700 hectares, and extends across the cadastral areas of Blučina, Židlochovice and Nosislav. The landscape therefore extends beyond Židlochovice. The nature park was established in 2002. In Židlochovice, historic buildings and a publicly accessible castle park add to the attractions.

Discovering the Výhon landscape with ease

The Krajinou Výhonu educational trail focuses on geology, flora, fauna, paleontology, archaeological finds and the relationship between people and the landscape. The trail presents Výhon through nature, geological history and traces of human activity, while the Akátová věž allows visitors to experience the same landscape as a viewpoint.

Akátová věž Výhon is a lookout tower on Výhon. It was built in 2009 from concrete, metal and acacia wood. The tower is accessible free of charge around the clock; however, access by car is prohibited.

Cycling between the town and the river

An important connection for active exploration is the interregional Brno–Vienna cycling route. It passes through the cadastral area of Židlochovice along Masarykova Street and the square. It then continues along the river over a footbridge on a dedicated cycle path. The route therefore changes from sections within the town to a cycle path running alongside the river.

Church, castle park and publicly accessible areas

The cultural side of Židlochovice includes the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. It was built from 1724 to 1730 according to plans by the Viennese Baroque architect J. L. Hildebrandt. The church is therefore one of the historic buildings that complement a visit to the town alongside its natural and cycling attractions.

An important distinction should be noted regarding the castle in Židlochovice: The castle itself is not open to the public, whereas the adjacent castle park is publicly accessible. The park can therefore be visited by the public, while the castle is not available as a publicly accessible destination.

Outdoor pool and regional wine traditions

The municipal outdoor pool in Židlochovice offers another option for a day during your stay. For swimmers, it has a 50-metre pool, complementing the landscape, cultural and cycling attractions with a sporting facility.

Židlochovice Town Hall houses a Regional Tourist Information Centre with a vinotheque and a historic cellar that has been opened to visitors. Among other things, the cellar presents local winemaking traditions. RTIC Židlochovice also sells tourist and wine-related maps for the Židlochovicko region. The historic cellar and vinotheque relate to the local wine tradition; the map selection extends beyond this to the entire Židlochovicko region.
