Discover Vysoké Popovice

Vysoké Popovice combines historical traces, a distinctive village church, rail connections and a variety of leisure activities. During your stay, you can combine cultural discoveries with outdoor activities and a recurring local event. The contrast between its long-established history and the activities that make the village accessible in different ways today is particularly interesting.

Getting There and Orientation

Vysoké Popovice railway station is located on railway line 240 between Brno and Jihlava. The railway is therefore one of the key reference points when choosing Vysoké Popovice as a place to stay or looking for accommodation in the village. The station building or covered shelter and all platforms are accessible without barriers. This specific feature applies to the station itself and makes orientation easier when arriving and departing.

Church and Local History

The first written mention of Vysoké Popovice dates from 1228. The parish Church of St John the Baptist is a key cultural landmark. It is located in Vysoké Popovice and was rebuilt in 1910; it was consecrated on 23 October 1910. Its history goes back even further: originally, a Romanesque wooden church, probably dating from the 12th century, stood on the site. It was later replaced by a masonry church.

The local municipal areas also reflect a specific stage of development. They were planted with fruit trees between 1910 and 1912 and today bear the name of their initiator, Arnošt Dusík. The Panská hospoda inn is dated to 1755 and adds another testimony to the village's history to these historical points of reference.

Active Experiences and Recurring Events

Vysoké Popovice has a beach volleyball court for a sporting break. A reservation system was introduced because of increased interest in the sports facility. However, if court capacity is available, the court can also be used without a reservation. Use therefore depends on current occupancy, while the reservation system provides an additional option.

A regular event in the annual calendar is Cesta pohádkovým lesem. This event takes place every year on the first Saturday in September and may therefore be of particular interest when planning a stay at that time.

At the Doubí water reservoir, the municipality warns that the stairway leading from the dam to the reservoir is extremely slippery. For entering the water, it asks visitors to use the beach on the opposite side.

Stezka permoníků is suitable for cycling or hiking and is planned as a project. It is not a fully described completed route. Most of the planned route is intended to run along forest and field paths as well as avenues; only a short section between Vysoké Popovice and Příbram is planned to run on a road.
