Přibice between Church History and River Landscape

Přibice is situated on a terrace above the Jihlava River. The village combines a remarkable ecclesiastical history with a landscape where remnants of alluvial forests have been preserved. A Church with Unusual Details

The Church of St. John the Baptist is at the centre of the village’s history. It was built in the Romanesque style and is one of the oldest churches in Moravia. Beneath its sacristy is a charnel house dating from the 14th century that has been preserved to this day. It is precisely this combination of very early architectural history and a preserved charnel house that makes the church a particularly distinctive cultural reference point in Přibice.

In front of the church, on the southern side of the park, stands a statue of St. John of Nepomuk. It was erected in 1768 and extensively restored in 2011. Another unusual feature is an inscription in the Church of St. John the Baptist. It has not been deciphered to this day, and its language is also unknown.

The local traditions also include the spring at Apoštolka. According to popular tradition, the Slavic apostles Cyril and Methodius drank from this spring as they travelled through Moravia. The story complements the visible architectural and artistic monuments with a tradition that connects Přibice with the history of Moravia.

Wine Route, Alluvial Forests and Natural Features

The signposted Brněnská Wine Trail, section Uherčice–Těšany, runs through Přibice. The exact name of the section is helpful if you want to plan your outing around a designated route rather than just individual sights. This also means that Přibice can be considered a starting point for a themed exploration of the Moravian wine landscape, without assuming any additional characteristics of the route.

A distinct landscape feature is found in the Přibice floodplain, where remnants of alluvial forests have been preserved. The Mušovský luh Natura 2000 site complements this natural setting. It contains eutrophic waters, alluvial forests and species such as the otter. For your travel choices, this creates a clear contrast between the historical focus around the church and the water- and floodplain-related natural features.

Special Events and Garden Culture

During the Open Gardens weekend, hundreds of exotic plants from around the world can be viewed at Exotická zahrada Přibice. This event creates a clear contrast with the Romanesque church and the floodplain landscape: instead of local history or a natural area, the focus here is on plants from various parts of the world.

The events scheduled for 2026 also show different sides of the village. The Cyrilometodějská pouť at Apoštolka in Přibice was scheduled for 5 July 2026. The Krojované hody in Přibice were scheduled for 20 and 21 June 2026. In addition, the 43rd Wine Exhibition in Přibice, held at the community centre grounds, was announced for 21 March 2026.
