Bukovice – Trails, Ponds and Lively Village Traditions

Bukovice combines the landscape of the Hornosvratecká Highlands with short excursions among ponds, forest paths and village culture. The village lies at an elevation of 450 to 480 metres above sea level on the northeastern side of a gentle hill. From Bukovice, there are views over the Tišnov Valley. This creates a destination where landscape impressions and small cultural discoveries are closely intertwined.

Walking Trails between Ponds and Forest Valleys

The Pod Myšníkem pond was created in 1998 by Ing. Haška and is now a popular local destination for walks. One path leads to two ponds in the lower part of Bukovice. Another route passes the Chapel of St. Anne and then follows an asphalt road to the Pod Myšníkem pond. This makes it possible to combine nature observation with a cultural stop in one route description, without any specific distance or walking time needing to be inferred.

The connection with Rohozec also opens up a different landscape perspective: a walking trail from Rohozec follows the Lubě River and passes through a forest valley to Bukovice. A walk through the winter or spring landscape around Bukovice and Rohozec is considered a peaceful walking option. For an active day out, there is also the “Železné výhledy” cycling tour, which is rated as moderately difficult. The routes therefore differ in both landscape and means of travel: along the Lubě, the journey is on foot, while “Železné výhledy” is rated as a moderately difficult cycling tour.

A Brief Cultural History Along the Way

The Chapel of St. Anne was reconstructed in 2005, including its shingle roof and an automatic bell-ringing system. Near the chapel, a wayside cross stone still bears a recognisable relief of a Cross of Golgotha. The paths through Bukovice therefore have a historical accent that is visible not only in a single building but also in a small detail along the way.

At the edge of the meadows, the “Památník lesa” forest monument offers a place to rest and is dedicated to the local forests. At a crossroads, there are also a stone table and a seat that were installed for the 750th anniversary of Bukovice.

Village Traditions and Special Dates

One of Bukovice’s distinctive traditions is the Easter custom of “Velikonoční mrskut”. Groups of boys and men, as well as occasional visitors, visit the village houses as part of the custom. It reflects a lively side of the village that differs from its landscape and architectural history.

On 16 September 2023, the 17th children’s fishing competition, “Bukovický kapr”, took place at the Pod Myšníkem pond. This date refers to a past event and is not a statement about a current events calendar. When choosing accommodation, however, the desired mix of activities during the stay may still be decisive: walking trails and ponds are complemented by cycling, village traditions and small historical discoveries.
