Havraníky amid vineyards, nature and local history

Havraníky combines viticulture, protected landscapes and a remarkable local history. Vineyards and protected landscapes

There are three vineyards in the cadastral area of Havraníky. “Staré vinice” and “Skalky” are cultivated, while “Dlouhé díly” is designated as a reserve vineyard. A specific connection to the regional wine tradition is provided by the seasonal stand of Znovín Znojmo at the Staré vinice vineyard near Havraníky. Tastings of local wines are offered there. The stand is therefore a distinct, seasonal aspect of the village and should not simply be equated with the entire wine-growing region.

Nature is also characterised by protected areas. Skalky u Havraníků is a Natura 2000 site covering 17.3284 hectares. It protects semi-natural dry grasslands, shrub formations on calcareous soil and a population of the large-flowered pasque flower. The precise combination of habitats and plant life makes this place particularly interesting for visitors who want to experience the landscape not merely as a backdrop, but in its distinctive natural forms.

Havranické vřesoviště lies between the wine-growing villages of Havraníky and Popice. It is considered the largest and best-preserved locality of its kind in the Podyjí area. Parking for this natural area is available directly in Havraníky at Havranický rybník. The car park is therefore a clear point of reference for travelling to Havranické vřesoviště, while the name of the area also preserves its location between two wine-growing villages.

Church, sculptures and a long local history

The Church of St. Linhart is one of Havraníky’s most important monuments. Its historical classification reaches back to the year 1220: at that time, a parish and a chapel dedicated to St. Linhart were founded in Havraníky. For a visit with a cultural focus, it is therefore not only the church building itself that is relevant, but also the village’s long connection with the patronage of St. Linhart.

Other visible testimonies add to this picture. The Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk in Havraníky dates from 1765. Next to the church there is also the sculptural group “Loučení Krista s P. Marii”, dating from 1747. Both details mark different historical accents and make the village centre a destination for anyone wishing to discover various forms of sacred art within a small area. The time span thus extends from the foundation in 1220 to the sacred artworks of the 18th century. Early church history and later sacred art therefore stand within the same village setting.
