Valtrovice – Nature along the Dyje and Annual Festivals

Valtrovice combines a protected river landscape with distinctive ecclesiastical buildings and a regular annual calendar of traditional events. Along the southern boundary of the cadastral area, the Dyje, lined with floodplain forests, forms a defining landscape. At the same time, Masopust, Krojované hody and the St. Nicholas celebration invite visitors to get to know Valtrovice at different times of the year. Between Floodplain Forests and the Meanders of the Dyje

The Valtrovický luh is a Natura 2000 site of European importance within the cadastral area of Valtrovice. The protected habitats include mixed ash-alder floodplain forests as well as mixed floodplain forests with oaks, elms and ashes. Preserved hardwood floodplain forests and wet areas with alder stands give the site its distinctive landscape character. At the southern edge of the Valtrovice planning area, the Meandry Dyje Natura 2000 site is also designated along the Dyje. At a ford near the municipality of Valtrovice, the river has high clay banks and a succession of meanders. These two connections with the Dyje represent different facets of the landscape: Valtrovický luh reveals the protected forest and wetland habitats, while the meanders illustrate the course of the river and its geological formation.

Church, Chapel and History

The parish church in Valtrovice is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. Its presbytery, or altar area, features a Late Gothic vault. Following an extensive reconstruction in 2013, the church won the Jihomoravský kraj competition that same year for the best-restored cultural monument in the category of large structures. The present-day parish house also reflects the history of the village: it was founded on 4 March 1748 by Countess Marie z Althana, née Pignatelli. On the way to the Dyje, Valtrovice also has a historically valuable chapel. Festivals Throughout the Year

Masopust takes place in Valtrovice every year in February. It includes a masked procession through the entire municipality accompanied by a band, followed by an evening event. In September, Krojované hody takes place, featuring an annual procession of the costumed group and a band through all of Valtrovice, followed by an evening celebration. Krojované hody is considered the municipality's largest cultural event. In December, St. Nicholas is celebrated in Valtrovice every year. The Valtrovický košt is also among the traditional public cultural and social events. This makes it possible to align the choice of travel period closely with the experiences you are seeking: in February, the masked procession takes center stage; in September, the costumed group; while December offers its own festive occasion.

Water Activities and Orientation in the Village

In recent years, an offering for water tourism has begun to develop in Valtrovice. Equipment can be rented and then used for paddling on the Dyje between Znojmo and the Nové Mlýny waterworks. Road II/408 is Valtrovice's main transport route.
