Mackovice: History, Nature and Cycling

In Mackovice, history dates back to the La Tène period; an archaeological settlement from this era has been documented. From the Celtic era, the historical perspective extends into Roman antiquity: a Roman coin from AD 75 was found in a field between Mackovice and Načeraticemi. The most prominent sacred building is the Church of the Betrothal of the Virgin Mary. The Baroque church was expanded from a chapel built in 1712 and stands as a distinctive landmark on a rise above Mackovice village square. Local architectural and commemorative heritage also includes the Boží Muka wayside shrine from the mid-19th century and the Poklona Chapel from the 1860s. In July, the traditional krojované hody festival takes place and is considered Mackovice's most important cultural event.
