Dyjákovičky: Church Art, Border History and Wine

Dyjákovičky brings together several themes that make a stay varied: a medieval settlement core, protected ecclesiastical and parish architecture, a museum dedicated to the history of border defence, and an event featuring wines from local winemakers. Kostel sv. Víta and the Historic Village Centre

A medieval settlement core is located around Kostel sv. Víta. The first written reference to Kostel sv. Víta and the settlement dates from 1220. The church is protected as a cultural monument and thus serves as an important reference point for the history of the village. Individual details in its surroundings also tell of different periods: the severely damaged Baroque Ukřižování in Dyjákovičky was restored in 2025.

To the north of Kostel sv. Víta stands the monumental stone cross, considered a high-quality Neoclassical work in stone and sculpture dating from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Anyone interested in historic village landscapes, ecclesiastical art and the development of rural communities will find several different points of interest here, without the history being limited to a single building.

Parish House with a Renaissance Core and Baroque Alterations

Another defining complex is areál fary č. p. 36. It comprises a parish house with house number 36 and a small adjoining place of worship with a Baroque stone statue of the Immaculata in a niche. The Czech Ministry of Culture has designated the parish complex as a cultural monument. At the same time, it is considered a very well-preserved example of rural parish architecture with a Renaissance core and Baroque alterations in an authentic urban setting within the municipality.

This combination makes the complex particularly interesting for visitors who are not only looking for grand monuments, but also want to understand the everyday architecture of a historic place. The Renaissance core, Baroque additions, parish house and small place of worship are different components of the same complex.

Museum, Route and Fixed Opening Hours

Dyjákovičky is a stop on the Via-Czechia Jižní stezka route, with a museum and a bus stop. The Minimuzeum obrany hranic Dyjákovičky offers a specific opportunity to learn about the region’s border history. It is located in the Dyjákovičky Municipal Office, house number 1, and has been open to the public since 2024 on the first Saturday of every month from April to October, from 09:00 to 16:00. If you want to plan your visit around fixed hours, this schedule is a clear part of planning the trip.

The first exhibition room of the Minimuzeum obrany hranic Dyjákovičky displays the equipment and armaments of the security and armed forces of the First Republic. In this way, the museum complements the village’s ecclesiastical and architectural history with a distinctly different focus. In nearby Chvalovice, the Pěchotní srub MJ-S 4 Zatáčka also houses a military museum with pre-war weapons as well as weapons and uniforms of the Československá lidová armáda from the Cold War period.

Wine and Local Event Culture

The regional wine culture is also part of the character of Dyjákovičky. Otevřené sklepy Dyjákovičky took place for the fifth time in 2024. The event offers wines from local winemakers and good food. This complements the historical themes with a social and culinary aspect, without limiting the history of the village to museums and historic buildings.
