Blansko: Discover Culture, Water and Landscapes

Blansko combines impressive cultural sites with water, landscapes and an international cycling route. Those looking for a range of experiences during their trip will find historic interiors, distinctive churches, summer concerts and destinations in the wider region. The city therefore also offers various focal points when choosing suitable accommodation: culture enthusiasts can focus on the chateau and churches, while active days can be combined with the Amber Road and the surrounding mountains.

Chateau, Exhibitions and Distinctive Churches

The Muzeum Blanenska is located in a Renaissance chateau from the 16th century, with Baroque alterations from the 17th century. The new exhibitions cover historic interiors, ironworking, the early history of the Blansko region and the exploration of the local caves. A visit to the museum thus leads from the rooms of the chateau to regional industrial history and cave research.

St. Martin's Church is a Baroque building constructed between 1672 and 1691. Its restored viewing platform in the bell tower offers a view over the whole of Blansko and the surrounding region. The church also houses the Poledník bell. It probably dates from the early 13th century and is probably one of the oldest bells in Moravia.

A separate historical feature is the wooden church in Blansko. It is the oldest church of the Transylvanian–Marmaros, or Ruthenian Gothic, type in the Czech Republic. At the same time, it is one of six wooden churches brought from Carpathian Ukraine to the Czech Republic; it comes from Nyzhni Selyschtsche. The Galerie města Blanska complements the cultural offering with guided tours and creative workshops for children and adults.

Water, Music and Current Information

In July and August, the chateau courtyard hosts the “Music for Caroline” series of folk concerts. The Palava recreational area includes an artificial body of water with a diving board and jetty; swimming is possible at your own risk. For 2026, however, it is important to note that public access to the recreational area is significantly restricted due to ongoing revitalization work. Palava should therefore not be included in plans without taking this clearly defined time-limited restriction into account.

Cycling Route and Mountains around Blansko

International Cycle Route 5, the Amber Road, passes through Blansko on the Brno–Adamov–Blansko–Ostrov–Sloup section. The route provides a concrete point of reference for a trip combining cycling with discovering the town. Mount Jedla is located in the vicinity of Blansko. The mountains Babí Lom, Paní hora and Stádla are located in the area around Blansko.

The wider region around Blansko includes Brno Zoo as well as the ruins of Kuchlov and Hrádek. The Pomník obětem 1. a 2. světové války memorial is also located in this wider regional area. The chateau, church and museum in the town thus stand alongside regional natural, cultural and memorial sites.
