Bukovina: Forests, Culture and Trails in the Drahanská vrchovina

Bukovina combines village history with a forest-rich landscape in the Drahanská vrchovina. On the village square, at protected buildings and during traditional events, you can encounter the local history; outside the village, marked trails lead through forest complexes and to viewpoints. This allows you to plan your stay around culture, hiking and cycling.

Village Square, Bell and Notable Buildings

A statue of Saint Wenceslas stands on the village square. It was erected in 1924 as a memorial to eleven residents who fell in the First World War. The historic bell from 1833 in the bell tower still hangs there today and is listed as a cultural monument. Cultural events and fairs take place in the square around the monument.

An unusual sight are the protected Boží muka on a hill next to the Agos Bio agricultural enterprise. The two-storey structure has a triangular floor plan and a gabled roof with a Cyril and Methodius cross. There are three image niches on each floor. Bukovina Day, “Den Bukoviny,” is held every September as a traditional event. At the beginning of the school holidays, the local fire brigade also organizes the youth competitions “Bukovinské štafetování.”

Forests, Viewpoints and Marked Trails

Bukovina lies in gently rolling terrain and is surrounded by forests on all sides. Nearby, Mount Proklest reaches 574 metres north of the village. Along the forest edge beside the trail, there are viewpoints overlooking the surrounding landscape. Strhovec Pond lies within the cadastral area of Bukovina and adds to the landscape landmarks around the village.

South of Bukovina, a red-marked hiking trail runs through forest complexes from Křtiny to Bukovinka. Near Lhotky, it connects to a blue-marked hiking trail towards Ochoz. The trails in the forests around Bukovina invite cross-country skiing in winter and cycling trips in summer. The Proklest Forest Road begins or ends in the south near Bukovina.

Cycling with Different Profiles

For a longer cycling trip, the 21-kilometre, moderately difficult cycling route 5081 from Blansko to Jedovnice is a good option. It is suitable for mountain bikes and trekking bikes and runs over asphalt or paved surfaces. In the vicinity of Bukovina, the Proklest Forest Road has a paved surface and is considered suitable for road cyclists as well as families with prams. This provides both a designated moderately difficult route and a paved path intended for a different user group when planning a trip. The differences in surface, difficulty and target group can be taken into account when planning a suitable cycling trip.
