Discover Kulirov: Landscape and Village Culture

If you are considering Kulířov as a destination in the Czech Republic, you will find a place here in the gently hilly terrain of the Drahanská vrchovina, about 14 km northwest of Vyškov. The municipality lies on the boundary between the two bioregions of Moravský kras and Drahanská vrchovina. The cadastral area consists predominantly of arable land, with meadows and pastures making up a smaller proportion; there is forest only in the southeast of the cadastral area. As a result, Kulířov is characterised as a rural settlement with clear ties to the landscape, village life and regional culture.

Water, Fields and a Protected Tree

The Kulířovský potok flows through the built-up area of Kulířov. Three smaller water reservoirs are located along this stream within the built-up area. A lime tree protected as a natural monument also grows on the eastern edge of Kulířov. A bus turning loop is located on the eastern edge of the built-up area. These specific points give you an impression of the village layout when finding your way around, without Kulířov losing its rural character.

Cycling Towards Studnice and the Karst

Marked Cycling Route 5029 runs through Kulířov. It continues from Kulířov in the direction of Studnice. Via Rozstání, Baldovec and Holštejn, the marked cycling route runs through Kulířov to the Sloupsko-šošůvské jeskyně caves. The sequence of places provides orientation for a cycling trip: Studnice lies in one direction from Kulířov, while the route via Rozstání, Baldovec and Holštejn leads to the caves.

At Studnice, at the Pod Fasůvkou site, the Studnické louky Nature Reserve lies in the direction of Kulířov. Wet meadows and protected plants shape the area, including the broad-leaved marsh orchid.

Chapel, Wayside Shrines and Local Traditions

The Chapel of Saint Anne stands on the village green in Kulířov. A festive Mass for Hody is celebrated there on 26 July. The oldest wayside shrines in the village stand in the fields along the road from Kulířov towards Panský mlýn; they were erected in 1635. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk has stood by the upper pond in Kulířov since 1880. Together with the chapel, these provide several reminders of local history at different points in the village and its surroundings.

Events Throughout the Year

The traditional Hasičský bál takes place in all the rooms of the Kulířov cultural centre. At the end of the year, a traditional nohejbal tournament for two-person teams is held. The Josefský table tennis tournament takes place in March. The dates are spread throughout the year: the Josefský table tennis tournament takes place in March, the Hody Mass on 26 July, and the nohejbal tournament at the end of the year. If you would like to plan your stay around local events, these provide different opportunities involving village culture, sport and annual traditions.
