Cycle routes with a common starting point

For cyclists, the town square is an important reference point: Cycle Route 5202 runs through Doubravice nad Svitavou and intersects there with Cycle Route 5204. This second route reaches Doubravice nad Svitavou via the district of Klemov and continues from the town square towards Kuničky. This makes it possible to follow two documented route courses in one place without having to combine them into a single route.

Castle ruins and traces of the Middle Ages

The ruins of Doubravice Castle lie above the valley of the Nešůrky stream, about 1.5 km from Doubravice nad Svitavou. The castle was built in the last third of the 13th century and had already been abandoned by 1528. Its history thus represents a long period of medieval and early modern local history. Those interested in historic sites will find here a distinct focus alongside the monuments in the town.

Baroque buildings and small monuments

The complex of the Church of St John the Baptist comprises the church itself and the statue of St John of Nepomuk standing opposite it to the northeast. The Baroque building dates from 1717 and was completely rebuilt after the fire of 1760. The complex also includes a Baroque mortuary chapel built into the cemetery wall. This combination of church building, statue, and cemetery wall makes the complex a particularly multifaceted historic site.

In the southern part of the town square, the stone sculpture of St Sebastian stands within a balustrade enclosure. The year 1713 carved into the work gives it a clearly dated historical dimension. Another distinctive landmark is the Baroque cross at the exit from the town towards Boskovice. It bears the year 1799 and is considered an important monument of local significance.

On the southern outskirts of the town, near the cemetery and on the right-hand southern side of the road towards Rájec, stands a masonry and rendered wayside shrine about 2 metres high. Known as Boží muka, this wayside shrine, with its Baroque forms, is already marked on maps from the First Military Survey. It is considered an important element shaping the landscape and a testimony to popular piety in Doubravice nad Svitavou.

Tradition and technology on the Svitava

The annual erection of the maypole takes place on Svobody Square. It is organised jointly by the Volunteer Fire Brigade in Doubravice nad Svitavou and Městys Doubravice nad Svitavou. The maypole is erected without mechanical aids – a traditional form of communal custom that connects Svobody Square with local tradition.

There is also a functioning weir on the Svitava. The technical structure serves to regulate the river and generate electrical energy. Thus, Doubravice nad Svitavou is home not only to sacred and medieval monuments, but also to a still-used testimony to the town's technical history.
