Vísky – Church, Educational Trails and Special Discoveries
Vísky combines historical traces, short educational trails and unusual discoveries into a diverse travel destination. At its center is St. Michael’s Church with its protected grounds; there is also a mineral exhibition, regional trails and leisure activities. If you would like to combine culture, exercise and a special insight into local traditions during your stay, you will find several different points of interest here.
St. Michael’s Church and Historical Features
The protected grounds of St. Michael’s Church include the church building, the enclosing wall with its gate and the plots of the former cemetery. The building’s history alone makes the site remarkable: the church is a single-nave structure of Romanesque origin that was rebuilt in the Gothic style and later altered in the Baroque style. Thus, several periods can be encountered in a single building.
One of the special details is a Gothic bell estimated to date from around 1400. It could therefore be the oldest bell made in Moravia. This cautious classification is part of what makes it distinctive and turns the bell into a historical detail to pay particular attention to when exploring the church.
Mineral Exhibition and Brewery Tour
A mineral exhibition displays the largest heliodor crystal in the Czech Republic. Visits are possible by prior arrangement and appointment reservation. For your daily planning, this means that the exhibition is not an attraction you should simply count on visiting spontaneously, but rather a destination with an arranged appointment.
The Ohrada microbrewery also offers an insight into a regional tradition. It provides brewery tours led by brewer Martin Kamba, with optional tasting. Advance reservation is required. This allows you to choose between a tour alone and a tour with tasting, provided you arrange the appointment in advance.
The renovated Orlovna offers locals and visitors two bowling lanes as well as billiards.
Educational Trails for Different Excursion Plans
The K obrázku educational trail connects Pamětice and Vísky and ends at the church in Vísky. It is approximately 1.5 km long, easy, and includes 12 stations with information panels. If you are looking for a short, manageable route with several informative stops, this educational trail offers a clearly defined option.
The Písečná educational trail is slightly longer at 2.5 km. This route is also easy, has 15 stations with information panels and ends at the church in Vísky. The two routes therefore differ primarily in their length and number of stations, while both converge at the church.
Panoramas, Hiking and Cycling
The terrace in front of St. Michael’s Church offers a wide panorama over the Boskovická brázda. The view complements the historical and thematic stops with an impression of the landscape. A green hiking trail also passes by the church; it begins in Boskovice and continues to the former Andělka spa. In addition, a regional cycling route runs by the church. This allows you to include Vísky in an excursion on foot or by bicycle without missing the town’s cultural attractions.
