Hiking between Skalky and Suchý

The hiking trail from Benešov u Boskovic to Suchý leads to the summit of Skalky. At 735 metres, Skalky is the highest point of the Drahanská vrchovina. Near the summit of Skály, the trail passes old beech stands in a nature reserve. After following the green hiking trail along the pond dam, it ends at the campsite in Suchý. The trail can therefore be divided into several sections: It leads to Skalky, passes old beech stands near Skály, and continues along the pond dam on the green hiking trail to the campsite in Suchý. This connects the highest point of the Drahanská vrchovina with a nature reserve and the destination in Suchý.

The landscape in the cadastral area of Benešov also merits closer consideration: it includes the Pavlovské mokřady nature reserve and the Horní Bělá natural monument. Pavlovské mokřady comprise highly endangered permanent grassland areas, wet meadows, small standing bodies of water, and the plant and animal communities associated with them. The mountains of Skalky and Skály are also located in the vicinity of Benešov. The mountains of Skatulec and Bučí are also located in the surrounding area. The protected areas thus provide a different focus from the mountains: while Skalky, Skály, Skatulec and Bučí define the elevations of the surrounding landscape, Pavlovské mokřady place wet habitats at the centre. This gives nature enthusiasts different focal points for exploring the landscape.

Churches, Chapels and Local History

The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows in Benešov was solemnly consecrated on 17 September 1994. No regular services are held in the chapel. It stands in a different location from the chapel dating from 1899. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Benešov was built in 1786–1787 and consecrated on 11 November 1787. The dates make the chronological gap clear: more than two centuries lie between the construction of the church and the consecration of the chapel. The chapel therefore belongs to a significantly more recent building history than the church from the late 18th century.

The surrounding area of Benešov also contains the Monument to the Victims of the First and Second World Wars, the Chapel of St. Anne, the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, and the Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary. These names extend the cultural orientation beyond the town centre, without requiring you to focus your trip exclusively on a single sight.

Cycling with Regional Connections

There is also a specific connection to the region for cyclists: Benešov u Boskovic remains, without interruption, one of the municipalities that launched the “Vrchovina” MTB series in 2002. Hiking and cycling thus offer two different ways of experiencing the landscape around the town. The MTB series complements the hiking trail with a longer-standing sporting connection to the region.
