Ratiborské Hory: Silver Mining and Landscapes
Ratiborské Hory combines a clearly recognizable mining history with churches, chapels, and a viewpoint in the landscape. The town depended on mining for several centuries; its development was connected with silver mining from 1526 onward. Traces of historical mining have been preserved in the terrain within Ratiborské Hory. This creates a destination where the town’s history can be experienced not only through dates, but also through tangible traces in the landscape.
This can be seen particularly clearly at the protected, abandoned ore mine. It lies south and southeast of Ratiborské Hory, in a strip between the Ratibořský Stream and the Tábor–Mladá Vožice road. The landscape south and southeast of the town therefore also forms part of the historical orientation.
Churches and Cultural Heritage
In the town, the Church of St. Adalbert provides a clear cultural focal point: the Baroque building was constructed from 1720 to 1722. Ratibořské Hory is also home to the Návesní Chapel, which dates from the second half of the 18th century. The Church of St. Anne is located in the surrounding area. When planning a trip, mining history and religious buildings can thus be considered as distinct themes.
The wider regional surroundings of Ratiborské Hory include the mountains of Hora, Smrčí, and Vrchy. The churches of Svatý Jan and Loreta are also located in this wider regional area. Ohrazenice Château was converted from a former fortress between 1778 and 1780 into a two-winged, single-storey Renaissance château. Silver was initially mined in the Tří Králů Mine in the region. Together, these places and buildings create a varied picture of landscapes, religious architecture, and mining.
Homole and Marked Trails
The Homole Viewpoint provides a focal point in the landscape. It is located on the 666-metre-high Homole mountain and offers wide views of the surrounding countryside. The expansive view from Homole complements the historical themes with a landscape perspective. Homole can be reached from Dub via the red-marked hiking trail. The viewpoint can therefore be included in an exploration of the town and landscape as a clearly defined hiking destination.
A second way to combine mining history with a trail theme is provided by the Stříbrná osmička educational trail. It connects in Podolí; Podolí is a district of the municipality of Ratiborské Hory. This provides different interests within a trip with historical traces, religious buildings, a viewpoint, and an educational trail as distinct focal points.
Ratiborské Hory offers concrete points of interest for this: silver mining in the town, the Church of St. Adalbert and the Návesní Chapel, as well as Homole and the red-marked hiking trail from Dub.
