Vlčeves – Landscape, Pilgrimage and Trails

Vlčeves combines a varied landscape with religious tradition, paths through the village and traces of historic mills. The rolling terrain slopes down southeast into the valley of the Černovický potok. To the east, the administrative boundary largely follows the deeply cut valley of the Javornička stream. In and around Vlčeves, open terrain, distinctive valleys and individual points of cultural and historical interest thus come together.

Landscape and notable places

The Dolejší rybník pond lies in the southern part of the village. Together with the two valleys, it shapes the spatial layout of the village, without Vlčeves being defined by a single landscape motif. The Památná lípa is a special natural and commemorative site. Its age is estimated at around 500 to 600 years. The old lime tree adds a historic natural feature to the younger, much more trail-oriented impressions of the surrounding area.

South of the municipality, two cast-iron crosses stand beside the road. The Křížek jižně od obce vlevo is located about 400 metres from the village centre on the left side of the road when approaching from the direction of the village. The Křížek jižně od obce vpravo is approximately 500 metres from the village centre on the right side of the same approach road. The two crosses are therefore located in the southern part of Vlčeves.

Pilgrimage and trails through Vlčeves

The village’s religious tradition includes the annual pilgrimage to St. Anne’s Church. It takes place on the Sunday after 25 July, with processions arriving from the surrounding area. This fixed date gives village life a clear cultural focal point and distinguishes the pilgrimage from the freely accessible landscape and trail features associated with Vlčeves.

A green hiking route also passes through Vlčeves. A local cycling route runs through the village as well and serves trips into the surrounding area. This allows different priorities to be taken into account when planning a trip: the hiking route is directly connected with orientation in Vlčeves, while the cycling route places the village within a broader excursion area. Historical traces in the wider area

The history of the mills also adds to the picture of Vlčeves. The remains of Nový mlýn are located in the settlement of Cihelny on the border between South Bohemia and the Vysočina Region. The Na Papírně paper mill, also known as Kuberův mlýn, was founded in 1794 by Josef Entlicher on the Černovický potok. Nový mlýn represents remains in this border area, while Na Papírně represents a paper mill founded in 1794 on the Černovický potok.
