Pořín – Church, Railway and Local History

Pořín offers several ways to explore its history: the first written records of the village date back to the 14th century. The name Pořín is derived from the personal name Póra and is interpreted as “Pórův dvůr” (“Póra’s farmstead”). St. Bartholomew’s Church and the Village Chapel

A particular focus is St. Bartholomew’s Church in Pořín. It contains a preserved historic one-manual organ, meaning an instrument with only one manual. Also preserved is a late Baroque high altar with a painting of the martyrdom of St. Bartholomew. The late Baroque village chapel in Pořín is the branch church of St. Bartholomew and dates from 1760 to 1770. Thus, the site combines ecclesiastical furnishings with a clearly dated period of construction.

The “Hrbatá” Railway Line

The history of the railway is also one of the notable themes around Pořín. The Tábor–Pelhřimov–Horní Cerekev line was built by Italian workers in 1883. It is known as “Hrbatá” because it crosses the difficult terrain of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.
