Chrbonín – Chapel, Local History and Local Tradition

Chrbonín invites you to get to know a place through tangible traces. At its centre is the Nanebevzetí Panny Marie Chapel; the Chrbonínský potok stream flows through Chrbonín. East of Chrbonín, the Lípa rodáků memorial lime tree was planted. This creates a manageable setting in which local history, ties to the landscape and local tradition stand side by side. The village can therefore be viewed both through its centre and through its connections to its surroundings and past, without reducing it to a single attraction.

Chapel and Village Centre

The Nanebevzetí Panny Marie Chapel stands in the centre of Chrbonín. Its year of construction is unknown. At the same time, its history reflects a change in the appearance of the village: the chapel replaced an earlier bell tower at the crossroads by house number 30. Repairs to the chapel were completed in August 2024. The former bell tower, the present chapel and the completed repairs thus form a chronological context in the village centre. If you like to begin a trip at a clear focal point, you can use this single building to organise Chrbonín’s more recent architectural history. The Chrbonínský potok stream adds a natural element to this orientation, without implying any specific route or excursion offer.

Traces of Local History

The history of Chrbonín’s affiliations with various estates also gives the village its own profile. Originally, Chrbonín belonged to the Choustník estate. After 1620, the village belonged to the Radenín estate and later, until 1878, to the Kolowrat-Krakowský family. These changing affiliations lead through several historical periods and make the village’s development over longer time spans visible. In addition, the original settlement site of Chrbonín bears the field name “V Liškách”. This name can be a particular point of reference if you are interested in traditional names, settlement history and the development of a place. In this way, architectural history, changes in estate affiliation and place names provide different approaches to the past.

Remembrance and Local Tradition

Another precisely dated point of reference is the Lípa rodáků memorial lime tree. It was planted east of Chrbonín on 8 May 1989. Together with the chapel in the centre, it creates a simple spatial orientation between the village centre and the eastern surroundings. An event was also associated with a specific date: a traditional Masopust celebration with a masked procession and an evening social gathering was planned in Chrbonín for 7 February 2026. This involved both a public procession and a communal evening. The date refers to 7 February 2026 and the planning status at that time; it does not constitute a general commitment for subsequent years.
