Hrusova Lhota: Ponds, Oak Avenue and Village History

Hrušova Lhota combines a village center shaped by ponds with distinctive trees, traditional buildings and a history dating back to the Middle Ages. Ponds and Oaks in the Village Landscape

The central area of Hrušova Lhota is characterized by the Olšovec pond and its waterside vegetation. The village square also includes a system of ponds. The Jednotský pond contributes to its appearance; reeds, cattails and sweet flag grow along its shores. Six mature pedunculate oaks stand on the embankment. If you explore the village on foot, you can perceive the water surfaces, waterside vegetation and old trees as distinct elements of the village landscape. Another defining green feature is the oak avenue on the embankment of Olšovec. North of house no. 21, there are also three oaks. Water surfaces, waterside plants and old trees thus give the village a very distinctive landscape character.

Hrušova Lhota and Its History

The first mention of Hrušova Lhota dates back to 1422. From the 15th century onward, the village, under the name Lhota Frydlova, belonged to the Choustník estate. On August 13, 1593, Petr Vok z Rožmberka sold Hrušova Lhota, together with its associated people, villages, meadows, orchards, dues, forests and an inn, for 1,400 schocks to Jindřich Vrchotický z Loutkova.

In 1622, following the Battle of White Mountain, the Vrchotický family's estate was confiscated and pledged to the town of Soběslav. In 1636, it was sold to Magdalena Vrchotická ze Svárova and subsequently joined to the Lžín estate. It was not until March 9, 1911, that Hrušova Lhota was separated from Lžín and subsequently administered as an independent municipality.

Village Architecture and Paths

The buildings that shape the village landscape include several traditional farmsteads and cottages, as well as a chapel. These include buildings with house numbers 1, 12, 11, 16, 10, 4, 3, 24, 18, 7, 6, 21 and 25. A field path offers a beautiful view of Choustník; in the village center, by contrast, the view is directed toward ponds, trees and historic buildings.

Designated Recreational Areas

Within the built-up area of Hrušova Lhota, two existing recreational areas with recreational buildings have been designated: one southeast of the settlement and one above Hliněný pond to the northeast. The location of these two areas adds another documented aspect to the picture of the village, situated between the settlement, ponds and surrounding landscape.
