The St. Anne Complex and Architecture
The St. Anne church and cemetery complex is in the centre of Přehořov, where it occupies a prominent position. The complex includes a perimeter wall, two gates and four chapels. The church was originally Early Baroque; at the beginning of the 19th century, it was remodelled into its present form. There is also a niche chapel on the western edge of the town, probably dating from the late 18th century.
Jewish History and Memorial Sites
A small Jewish settlement in Přehořov has been documented in writing since the beginning of the 17th century. The Jewish cemetery was established before 1723 and, in its first decades, served Jews from Přehořov, Soběslav, Veselí and Zlukov. Two surviving gravestones belong to the same person: Lea (Elisabeth / Eleanora) Wimmer.
A synagogue of unknown age stood on the road leading north from the village square; it was demolished in 1960. The town’s history therefore includes both the cemetery and the memory of a building that no longer exists.
Jan Veselý and Local Traditions
A memorial plaque in Přehořov commemorates Jan Veselý, who was born there and served as an RAF pilot. The plaque features the silhouette of an aircraft, a motif directly related to his career. The history of local crafts is also part of the town’s cultural identity: weaving flourished in Přehořov after many weavers had been trained there.
Water, Avenues and Trails
The Dírenský potok flows through Přehořov. The surviving remnant of Přehořov Chateau Park lies on the north-eastern edge of the town. It dates from the first half of the 19th century and is situated in undulating terrain.
In 1818, Knight Kryštof André laid out the lime-tree avenue from the old school to St. Anne’s Chapel. Another avenue was laid out in 1822 from Přehořov to Kvasejovice. The lime-tree avenue was therefore created four years before the second avenue. A yellow-marked hiking trail also passes through Přehořov. If you plan to include it in your itinerary, check the local signposting, as trail markings may change.
