Pohnánec: Trails, Landscape and Local History
Accommodation in Pohnánec
Pohnánec can be explored through two distinct features: marked trails and the landscape around Homole, as well as the chapel, wayside cross and local traditions. The village lies 11 km northeast of Tábor, at an altitude of 550 metres above sea level. Homole rises above the village to 668 metres; its views and the hiking and cycling routes make nature and outdoor activities a focus of trip planning.
Location and Landscape Around Homole
Pohnánec lies west of Polánka Nature Park, which extends over 15.6 km² to the east of the village. This makes it easy to distinguish the village geographically from the protected area: the park is a destination nearby, not part of the village. Homole also lies above Pohnánec. From the hill, views stretch across the landscape to the Šumava Mountains.
The meadows below the summit are known for their far-reaching views, particularly to the west. Those who want to experience the landscape will find a specific vantage point here, in addition to the view from Homole itself. The surroundings are also well suited to walks; the local description invites visitors to take one without specifying a particular route.
Hiking Trails and Cycling Routes
A red-marked hiking trail runs through Pohnánec. Below Homole, three marked hiking trails meet at the Pod Homolí trail junction. These are two different reference points for planning: the trail through the village and the junction near the hill. Check the markings on site if you plan to use the trail.
Cyclists also have two specific route options: the “Vítězství u Mladé Vožice” tour passes through Pohnánec, as does cycle route No. 1172. These details refer to two routes through the village, not to their length or a shared course. Check current route information before setting off, especially for the “Vítězství u Mladé Vožice” tour.
Chapel, Wayside Cross and Local Traditions
The newly renovated Chapel of the Holy Family stands in the village square. A wayside cross is located in the northern part of Pohnánec. Both add a cultural dimension to exploring the area, distinct from the landscape attractions around Homole.
Local history also includes the vanished Polánka fortress, less than a kilometre south of Pohnánec. Its first owners were Přibík and Vilém z Polánky in 1382. The fortress is a destination nearby, not within the settlement. A different, more recent tradition is the humorous “Pohnánecká lávka” pond-crossing competition, which has been part of local tradition since 2009.
Accommodation and Planning Your Stay
The accommodation listings for Pohnánec include cottages, holiday homes, apartments and glamping options offered directly by their owners. However, some listings may be in nearby settlements. This makes it easier to choose accommodation based on the trails, landscape or cultural attractions that interest you.
Pohnánec also has a natural bathing area. If you plan to visit during your stay, check that it is currently accessible before going. The village’s location, the trails through it and nearby landscape features offer different starting points for planning; you can choose which to focus on according to your interests.
