Borovno – Brdy Landscape, Bradava and Trails

Borovno combines remarkable landscapes with visible traces of rural history. Parts of the municipality lie within the Brdy Protected Landscape Area, specifically in zones II, III and IV. The southern part belongs to Brdy Nature Park. In addition, there is the Bradava River, protected natural sites and trails that make the area interesting for active outings and relaxing stays.

Protected landscape along the Bradava

The Bradava is a Natura 2000 site of European importance, more precisely a Site of Community Importance. In the Borovno area, the river flows through several flow-through ponds. Along the southern edge of the municipality, in the Dolní Borovno area, the Bradava also flows. In the south, the Bradava shapes the landscape; however, the entire municipality is not located on the riverbank.

Protected natural features can also be discovered away from the river. In meadows south of the built-up area of Borovno, there are two sites with the particularly protected European globeflower. The two meadow sites complement the river and landscape areas with a specific botanical feature.

The valuable natural and landscape surroundings, together with the clean air, create favorable conditions for stays focused on relaxation in Borovno. The protected areas of the Brdy and the natural sites can be understood as different facets of the same local landscape: here, extensive landscapes meet specific, locally limited features.

Hiking and cycling on different types of trails

Borovno offers several types of routes for active days. A marked cycle route runs along a Class III road. In addition, the municipality is crisscrossed by service roads that form suitable tourist routes. This opens up a different way of exploring the area than simply traveling on the road: the routes lead through the municipality without implying any particular circular route or fixed excursion.

The undeveloped area of Borovno can be reached via existing local roads, service roads, forest and field paths, cycle routes and marked hiking trails. When planning your day, you can therefore choose between cycling, hiking and shorter sections on different types of routes. In the larger area of the Brdy Protected Landscape Area, most of the region is crisscrossed by a dense network of forestry service roads. Motor vehicles are not allowed to use these roads, making them suitable for hiking and cycling.

Borovno is also served by bus transport. Thus, alongside the landscape and trail network, public transport connections are another factor to consider when choosing where to stay. When looking for accommodation in Borovno, you can therefore pay particular attention to whether you would prefer to focus your days more on the marked cycle route, hiking trails, natural areas or accessibility by bus.

Rural buildings and small local details

Borovno's character includes original rural buildings, often grouped into former farmsteads. They give the village an architectural distinctiveness that differs from the large-scale landscape themes of the Brdy. Borovno also has small local wayside crosses. Such individual testimonies mean that visiting the village is not merely a nature route, but also adds small historical discoveries to the landscape.

An unusual technical detail concerning the locality involves the nearby Javor 51 depot. It had its own well, a diesel-electric generator and air-filtration systems. This equipment represents an independent aspect of the surroundings and broadens the view beyond the visible landscape.
