Discover Líšina in the Merklínka Valley

Líšina combines the landscape of the Merklínka Valley with a remarkably long local history and tangible evidence of rural architectural culture. The village lies in the valley of the small Merklínka River, whose watercourse runs through the center of Líšina. At the same time, the agricultural character of the Merklínka Valley has been preserved to this day. Anyone wishing to combine a stay in the Czech Republic with regional history, a rural setting, and a documented cycling route will find several different points of interest here.

Valley Landscape and Character of the Village

In Líšina, the Merklínka is more than a geographical designation: Its course through the center makes the river a clear point of reference for the village. Together with the valley, it forms the landscape framework in which Líšina continues to present itself today. The preserved agricultural character of the Merklínka Valley points to an environment shaped not only by individual buildings but also by its traditional use. For travel planning, this creates a distinct landscape theme alongside the historical sights.

History and Visible Evidence

The first written mention of Líšina dates from 1180. From 1227 onward, Líšina belonged to the estates of Chotěšov Monastery. The history of the landscape reaches back even further: Archaeological finds of burial mounds in the vicinity of Líšina provide evidence of settlement as early as the 4th century BC. The history of the village therefore cannot be confined to a single era; written records and archaeological traces belong to different chronological layers here.

A prominent cultural monument is the Chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. It stands on the road between Stod and Merklín and is registered as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

Farmstead No. 46 includes stone granaries with a double roof structure. Block walls are also visible on the grounds of the same farmstead. Thus, visible architectural elements at the farmstead complement the documented dates and ownership relationships.

Cycling Through the Region

The official “Pohodová” cycling route is relevant for active exploration. It runs from Dobřany via Dnešice, Halter Valley, Přestavlky, Dolní and Horní Lažany, Líšina, Holýšov, Hradec, Lisov, Stod, Mantov, Chotěšov, and Metálka to Vstiš and Dobřany. The route passes through Líšina and connects several places in the surrounding area. Those who choose cycling as their focus can therefore consider the village in the context of this complete route sequence rather than viewing it only as an isolated destination.

From April 25 to 28, 2026, Líšina was part of the Stod–Lelov–Líšina–Čelákovy section of bus route 551 as part of a diversion. This section was associated only with this temporary diversion and was not a general or permanent timetable.
