Hradiště Castle and its history

The neo-Gothic Hradiště Castle lies on the southeastern edge of Blovice, on a spur of land bounded by the Úslava and the Komoranský stream. Its present appearance was created through extensive neo-Gothic renovations between 1872 and 1874. The castle park was also redesigned during this period: between 1872 and 1874, it was created in the then-modern English style.

The cellar of Hradiště Castle contains remains of the original Gothic fortress. The historic cellar exhibition presents the development of the castle from the Gothic period through the Renaissance and Baroque to the Empire style. It uses 3D models, video presentations and archaeological finds for this purpose.

Church, burial chapel and Jewish cemetery

The Baroque Church of St. John the Evangelist stands on a terrace above the Úslava and is a protected cultural monument. North of the nave is the Kolowratská burial chapel, an Empire-style chapel dating from 1833. Another historical testament is the Jewish cemetery in Blovice, where 214 gravestones have been preserved. Together, these sites provide different approaches to the town’s history, from sacred architecture to remembrance culture.

Castle park with distinctive details

The castle park retains a brick bridge with a railing shaped like interconnected tree trunks and branches.
