Nevid – Forest Landscape, Trails and Cultural History

History Between the Village and Its Surroundings

Nevid was first mentioned in 1227. From 1587 to 1848, the village belonged to the Šťáhlavy estate. The name itself probably also reaches far back into the past: Nevid is probably derived from the personal name of one of the first settlers. Another historical record describes eleven properties in Nevid; a manorial inn was also operated there.

Approximately 1,300 metres south of Nevid lies the important archaeological site of ZSO Mydlná. It comprises a late-medieval fortress, an abandoned complex and a settlement. The Kamýk fortress also stood near Nevid and had certainly been abandoned by the end of the 16th century at the latest. Both references make clear that the cultural history of the surrounding area is composed of different periods and different forms of historical settlement.

The wider region around Nevid also includes the Zřícenina Valdek ruins, the Church of Svatý Martin, Plzen Barholomaeus Cathedral and the Church of U Svatého Petra. These destinations add further secular, religious and archaeological themes to the local history, without reducing Nevid to a single attraction.

Hiking, Cycling and Culture Locally

For hiking orientation, a yellow-marked trail of the Club of Czech Tourists runs through Holubí Kout in the northeastern part of the Nevid planning area. Cyclists will find a second clearly described connection in cycle route T1: it leads from the Nevid settlement southeast towards Kamínky. The two different routes give travel planning distinct focuses, one involving a marked hiking trail and the other a connection along a cycle route.

There is also a cultural point of interest in the village itself. Various cultural events take place in a local inn in Nevid, in a hall with 130 seats. Nevid is also connected to the district capital by bus services.
