Discover Medový Újezd

Medový Újezd combines vivid local history with protected landscapes and several clearly distinct options for an active stay. Here, you can discover a monument and historic houses, explore the local swimming pool complex or consider Medový Újezd as a starting point for routes towards Trhoň, the Brdy ridge and Bílá skála. This allows you to choose your accommodation according to whether culture, water or hiking is your main priority.

Local history with tangible evidence

The first written mention of Medový Újezd dates back to 1336. At that time, Petr z Rožmberka received, among other things, half of the village of Medový Újezd as hereditary property from King Jan Lucemburský. A later testimony to the local history stands in the lower part of Medový Újezd: in May 1923, a monument to six soldiers who fell in the First World War was unveiled there. A commemorative plaque for the victims of the fascist occupation was added later.

The historic architecture can also be seen in individual houses. House No. 15, a two-storey wooden building, has a stone or masonry ground floor, a timber-framed upper floor, a mansard roof and an inhabited gallery. It dates from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Chalupa No. 9 dates back to the first half of the 19th century. Together with the monument, these buildings provide the village with several different historical points of reference, without reducing its local history to a single event.

Water, sports and a summer terrace

The swimming pool complex in Medový Újezd offers a world of its own. The pool is fed with clean water from the surrounding forests. The complex also includes a sauna, refreshments with a summer terrace, sanitary facilities and a hard court for tennis and ball sports. During the summer months, the swimming pool complex is used by local residents, holidaymakers and people from the surrounding municipalities.

For travel planning, this creates a clearly recognisable choice between different daily routines: you can focus your stay on the swimming pool complex and its additional facilities, or use the village as a starting point for a hike followed by further exploration.

Protected landscapes and routes

Two protected areas are associated with Medový Újezd: the Medový Újezd Nature Monument and Trhoň Nature Park. The nature monument protects a significant palaeontological site from the Central Bohemian Cambrian in the Lingulella matthewi subzone. This geological connection distinguishes the landscape from a purely walking or swimming destination and also makes it interesting for visitors who want to experience nature from the perspective of Earth’s history.

Medový Újezd is also a starting point for a hike up Mount Trhoň and for crossing the Brdy ridge towards the Vartemberk (Vimberk) castle ruins. The “Přes Trhoň” route passes through Medový Újezd twice. Bílá skála can be reached from the Medový Újezd side.
