Újezd U Svatého Kříže – Nature Park, Cycle Routes and Village Culture
Újezd u Svatého Kříže combines protected landscape, village history and varied routes. The cadastral area lies within Berounka Nature Park, while several cycling options run directly through the village or start here. This active focus is complemented by the Baroque Church of St. Cross, a niche chapel and the Svaťácká sednice village museum, which is open to visitors. This allows you to plan your stay around nature, activity and discoveries of cultural history.
Natural Landscape and Traces of History
Berounka Nature Park protects the preserved character of the Berounka Valley landscape. It includes rock outcrops, adjacent forests, agriculturally shaped areas and historically valuable village architecture. These varied landscape elements give the area a clear regional setting without limiting excursion planning to a single experience.
The western part of the cadastral area also contains a Bronze Age burial mound field of the Milavčer culture. In the southern part of the municipality, an elms tree is listed as a memorial tree. Both sites add traces to the landscape that point far beyond the present-day village structure.
Church, Chapel and Village Museum
The Church of St. Cross was built in 1777 in the Baroque style. It is a single-nave building with a rectangular-ended presbytery; the tower forms part of the west façade. The interior contains altar paintings and vault paintings by the painter Karel Mašek. Those interested in regional architectural history and sacred art will find several specific details here that go beyond a mere view of the village.
A smaller historical curiosity is the niche chapel in Újezd u Svatého Kříže. Its plastered rectangular structure has a semicircular vaulted niche, a triangular gable and a gabled roof covered with tiles. At the Svaťácká sednice village museum, visitors can see household objects and items from the domestic environment. Svaťácká sednice also includes a room with a small exhibition of memorabilia commemorating Karel Gott.
Hiking and Cycling in Different Formats
The yellow hiking trail through Újezd u Svatého Kříže is 7.5 km long and has an elevation profile of 184 m. For cyclists, the Zelený okruh route runs directly through the village and is 6.5 km long. The Velká Radná cycling route offers a different course: it starts in Újezd u Svatého Kříže and follows the stream of the same name to Darová.
For mountain biking, Újezd u Svatého Kříže has a trail park with several routes of varying difficulty levels and lengths. A dedicated rest area for cyclists is located in the Svaťácké zastavení village park. The 1.5 km-long Svaťák mountain bike trail is laid out as a circuit; a local race is held on it every year.
