Klášter: Abbey History, Nature Trail and Family Outing
Accommodation in Klášter
Klášter is a destination for anyone who would like to combine cultural history with a manageable outdoor activity. The Cistercian Abbey of Panny Marie, a nature trail below Zelená Hora and an area for children offer various possibilities for a family stay. When looking for suitable accommodation, you can therefore consider whether to focus on historical discoveries, physical activity or shared experiences with children.
Abbey History in Klášter
The Cistercian Abbey of Panny Marie in Klášter was founded in 1144 by Vladislav II and settled by monks from Ebrach in Germany. This gives the place a clear historical connection, which can be traced through several surviving architectural features. Among the remains of the former abbey, a Romanesque building bearing house number 39 has been preserved. Adjoining these abbey remains is part of the former cloister, with gates dating from the beginning of the 14th century.
A later period is represented by the classicist Chapel of St Margaret. It dates from 1861–1862. Those interested in ecclesiastical architecture, medieval monastic history and later architectural styles can consciously combine these different elements when planning their trip. The historical traces are not merely a backdrop; they give a stay in Klášter its own distinctive cultural character.
Nature Trail for Walking and Cycling
For an active addition to the cultural program, the nature trail below Zelená Hora is a good choice. It leads from Nepomuk around Zelená Hora Castle to Klášter and back to Nepomuk. The nature trail is just under 4.5 kilometres long and includes nine stations with information panels. Take this route into account when planning your day. This allows you to combine the route with informative stops instead of limiting yourself to visiting individual buildings בלבד.
The trail is suitable for pedestrians, cyclists and families with children, and it is accessible with a stroller. This makes it easier to choose an activity when a travel group has different interests and varying walking speeds.
Water and Activities for Children
Klášterský rybník is used primarily for fish farming and fishing. It is therefore a body of water with a clearly defined function and complements the historical and activity-oriented aspects of the place. There is also an area for children next to the football pitch in Klášter. Families can take this information into account when planning and adjust their expectations for the stay accordingly.
