Mileč – Village Church, Trails and Landscape Views

Mileč combines a remarkable Baroque village church with marked trails, historical traces and views across the landscape as far as Zelená Hora Castle and Nepomuk. The Church of St. Peter and Paul

The Church of St. Peter and Paul is at the heart of the village’s history. It acquired its present form in 1764 on the site of an older place of worship, which presumably dated from the 14th century. The building was constructed according to a design by the prominent Baroque architect Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer. The historic organ, built by the Plzeň organ builder Leopold Rausch, also dates from 1764.

The history of this instrument is particularly impressive: the organ remained in a severely damaged condition until the beginning of the 21st century, while retaining a high degree of authenticity. Thanks to the initiative of the residents of Mileč, it was saved. The church therefore tells not only of Baroque architecture, but also of a preserved historical detail and the commitment of the local people.

Views and Traces in the Village

North of Mileč, a monument commemorates the victims of the Thirty Years’ War. From there, there is a distinctive view of the landscape, particularly of Zelená Hora Castle and the town of Nepomuk. The viewpoint complements a visit to the church with an open landscape perspective and makes Mileč’s position between the village, a cultural monument and the wider horizon visible.

In the heart of the village also stands the imposing Milečská lípa lime tree beside the historic gate of a farm estate. On the road from Mileč to Nepomuk stands a stone monument formerly known as “Boží muka”, which has been restored. Both places provide additional historical points of reference when exploring the village, without reducing Mileč to a single attraction.

Hiking and Cycling Around Mileč

For active exploration, the marked Nepomuk–Oselce hiking trail passes through Mileč. It continues southwards to Maňovický rybník and then southeastwards into forested areas. The route thus connects the village with a pond and the adjoining woodland landscapes.

Mileč is also connected to designated cycling routes. Cycle Route 2041 Nepomuk–Plánice comes from Nepomuk in the north, passes through Mileč and continues westwards to Plánice. Another option is the annual route programme of the Nepomuk club of Czech tourists. It includes a 50-kilometre route that passes through Mileč. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore weigh up whether local history, a hiking route, a cycling tour or a combination of several interests matters most to you.

Arrival and Further Orientation

Railway line 190 Plzeň–České Budějovice runs east of Mileč. A stop on this line is located approximately 1 kilometre south of the village. In addition, a Class III road branches off southwards, passes through Mileč and branches again further on to serve the surrounding settlements.
