Výprachtice – Hiking, Landscape and Local History
Hilly Landscape and Trails Around Výprachtice
Výprachtice lies at elevations between 510 and 875 metres. The hilly landscape includes some steep climbs, and several hiking trails run through it. At the same time, the town has a clear connection to the Moravská Sázava: The river rises at the foot of Buková hora and continues from Výprachtice into Moravia. This makes it possible to distinguish, when planning tours, between partly steep highland trails and the wooded valley section of the educational trail between Albrechtice and Výprachtice.
The mountain Buková hora is located nearby. Suchý vrch, Lazek and Obora are in the vicinity of Výprachtice. One specific route into this landscape is the Naučná stezka Údolí Moravské Sázavy educational trail: It leads through a wooded valley section of the Moravská Sázava between Albrechtice and Výprachtice.
Local History with Distinctive Details
The local history dates back to 1304: Výprachtice was first mentioned in writing in a deed of donation from King Wenceslaus II to Zbraslav Monastery. Historical details include the rural Kostel Proměnění Páně church. The Empire-style sacred building was constructed between 1815 and 1817 on the site of an older structure; a tower dating from the 15th to the 16th century remains from it. This means that the church offers both an Empire-style sacred building and a tower from the 15th to the 16th century to view. The church is a significant landmark of Výprachtice and the surrounding landscape. In addition, the Column of the Most Holy Trinity in Výprachtice dates from 1863.
Smaller monuments also contribute to the local history. A monument in the centre of Výprachtice commemorates the locals who fell in both world wars. A pseudo-Gothic cast-iron cross combines industrially manufactured cast-iron production with stone masonry. It stands on a stone pedestal with reliefs of Saint Anthony of Padua and the Instruments of the Passion of Christ. At Na zámku, at the entrance to the Sázava Valley at the end of Výprachtice, there was a fortress in the Middle Ages. In the wider regional area is the Nový Hrad complex, mapped as a ruin.
Winter Sports Destinations
The Ski areál Ovaz Merta ski area is a small ski centre in the upper part of Výprachtice below the mountain Na Hoblovně. The Buková hora – Suchý vrch cross-country skiing area has an access point at the saddle between Výprachtice and Čenkovice. The two winter sports facilities also differ in their location: The ski centre is in the upper part of Výprachtice, while access to the cross-country skiing area is at the saddle between Výprachtice and Čenkovice. This allows you to set different priorities when choosing your travel dates, between local history, hiking routes and the two winter sports areas.
