Horní Třešňovec

Horní Třešňovec lies in a valley north of the town of Lanškroun and combines a distinctive sacred landscape with small cultural discoveries in the village. Particularly unusual is the pilgrimage site with the Church of Mariánská Hora: it forms the boundary of the Horní Třešňovec cadastral area, while the church itself stands directly on the European watershed between the North Sea and the Black Sea. This spatial peculiarity adds to the variety of local landmarks. In Horní Třešňovec, religious buildings, a Calvary group, a museum, and examples of rural architecture are located at different points in the village rather than in a single location. This makes it possible to view sacred art, local history, and the landscape in different forms.

Mariánská Hora and Historical Details

The pilgrimage church of Mariánská Hora contains a large neo-Gothic Calvary side altar. It was created at the end of the 19th century by the carpenter Jahn from Horní Třešňovec.

Further evidence of local history can be found at various points throughout the village. In front of House No. 213 stands a stone Calvary group made of sandstone. The local Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary dates from 1869–1870, while the Protestant prayer house dates from 1953–1954. The chapel therefore belongs to the 19th century, while the prayer house dates from the mid-20th century. Thus, alongside the pilgrimage church, a chapel, a Protestant prayer house, and a freestanding Calvary group represent different forms of sacred architecture. The religious landmarks are therefore distributed among separate sites and buildings.

Village Architecture, Museum, and Landscape

Secular objects also make Horní Třešňovec interesting for explorers. House No. 91 contains a fire brigade museum. Farmhouse No. 105 is one of the notable examples of rural architecture; it includes a preserved granary. Thus, alongside churches, a chapel, and a prayer house, the village also features a museum and a specific example of peasant architecture.

Former sandstone quarries lie west of Horní Třešňovec. A signposted local cycle path runs along the western edge of Horní Třešňovec.

The local information therefore combines sacred, architectural, and landscape points of interest. Mariánská Hora represents the pilgrimage church and the European watershed, the chapel and prayer house represent further religious architectural forms, while the fire brigade museum, farmhouse, and granary direct attention to the village surroundings. The former sandstone quarries and the local cycle path add a western landscape area to this selection.
