Lisnice – River Landscape, History and Cycling Culture

Lisnice lies on the Divoká Orlice River in the foothills of the Orlické Mountains. The village combines a river landscape with several clearly distinguishable cultural and historical sites: the church, bridge, fire station and Sokolovna each tell their own part of the village’s history. If you would like to combine nature, cycling and small discoveries in the village during your trip, Lisnice offers various starting points for doing so.

River, Bridges and Villagescape

Lisnice is known for seven bridges and numerous footbridges. At one bridge stands a statue of the Holy Trinity dating from 1889. On a walk through the village, you will encounter waterways, crossings and a religious monument as distinct stops. The bridges and footbridges shape the routes through Líšnice while connecting the river landscape with the historic villagescape.

Church and Historic Fire Station

A notable cultural and historical site is Kostel sv. Rodiny, a pseudo-Romanesque church built between 1865 and 1868. It replaced a chapel erected in 1788. The two dates point to the longer development of this religious site and provide a specific historical context for a visit.

The historic brick fire station in Líšnice was ceremonially opened on July 13, 1913. It bears the inscription “Sobě ke cti, bližnímu k ochraně.” At the same time, a cycling route to the Pastviny Reservoir runs around the historic brick fire station. This means that a cycling tour can combine a local architectural monument with further exploration of the surrounding landscape, rather than presenting the fire station merely as an isolated attraction.

Tradition and Sokolovna

A local tradition is the annual competition “O putovní pohár starosty obce Líšnice,” organized every year on July 5 by the Líšnice Volunteer Fire Brigade in the unusual firefighting attack format. The fixed date adds a clear cultural reference to the village’s annual calendar. Sokolovna is also part of Líšnice’s history: after a fire in 1935, it was built within 18 months. Following its ceremonial reopening on October 25, 1936, it was used for cultural and sporting activities of the entire municipality. Sokolovna Líšnice also offers accommodation. The rebuilding after the fire and its subsequent use for the entire municipality thus combine architectural history with community cultural and sporting life.

“Žamberská” Cycling Route

For cyclists, the light-blue “Žamberská” cycling route starts at the sports complex in Líšnice, where there is an information board. The route is classified as moderately difficult. Without stops, the estimated time for the route is two hours. For planning your day, you can allow two hours of riding time without breaks. Breaks, photo stops and additional visits are added accordingly. The sports complex is home to both the starting point and the information board, so the tour begins at a fixed starting point in Líšnice. The moderately difficult route can therefore be planned as a separate part of the day alongside a walk through the village, without including breaks in the estimated time.
