Discover Horní Heřmanice

Horní Heřmanice combines a remarkable local history with marked cycling and hiking routes and seasonal opportunities for active days. The Church of St. George is the focal point: this single-nave Baroque monument was built between 1708 and 1712 by the Italian architect Antonio Sala. Together with the cemetery gate and chapel, the church complex is protected as a cultural monument. Cultural Monuments with Special Details

The Church of St. George contains a baptismal font dating from 1749 with a carving depicting the baptism of Christ in the Jordan River. A replica of the pilgrimage image Chrudimský Salvátor stands on the main altar. The sacred grounds also include a late-Baroque crucifix dating from 1788. The ossuary of Horní Heřmanice is registered as an immovable cultural monument. Near the church and rectory, a statue of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1767 also commemorates the village’s historical character.

Illustrative examples of the region’s architectural history can also be found outside the church grounds. The old wooden water mill No. 103 was built in 1748 by Ferdinand Dittrich, the brother of the first pastor of Heřmanice. It is considered an important example of folk architecture in the Lanškroun area. Horní Heřmanice is also home to well-maintained wooden chalets that bear witness to the local folk architecture. Country house No. 85 is a copy of an example originally dating from 1792 of the submontane log-house architecture found in the Lanškroun area. The decorated gable has been preserved as a characteristic detail; after the building was damaged in 2006, it was reconstructed as a copy of the original house.

Cycling and Hiking Around the Village

Two marked cycling routes pass through Horní Heřmanice. The CT 4225 runs from Tatenice via Horní Heřmanice to Výprachtice, while the CT 4253 connects Čenkovice with Verměřovice via the village. For hiking, the green-marked Lázek–Horní Heřmanice–Buková hora route passes through the village. The ridge hiking trail through the Bukovohorská Mountains runs through the upper part of Horní Heřmanice and offers views of Bohemia and the Moravian side all year round.

Road I/43 passes through Horní Heřmanice and connects Lanškroun with Štíty. Depending on the preferred itinerary, visitors can focus on the village’s cultural monuments, cycling tours or hikes.

Seasonal Experiences

There is a small ski lift in the centre of Horní Heřmanice that is particularly suitable for young people. If snow and weather conditions permit, a 1 km cross-country ski trail is groomed twice a week in the vicinity of the sports field. These activities are expressly dependent on the prevailing conditions. A special cultural event was also announced: the traditional dahlia exhibition by local gardeners at the Horní Heřmanice Cultural Centre was scheduled for 5 and 6 September 2026 from 2 p.m.
