The History of Hejnice and Křižánky

The first written record of Hejnice dates from the 15th century. In the past, Hejnice belonged to the Žampašské estate. A distinctive trace of local economic history leads to the Vápenka district in the direction of Písečná: it is demonstrably connected with the former mining of limestone and the burning of lime. Křižánky also has a long documented history. The first written record of Křižánky dates from 1376. The original farm there was divided into five parts in 1697; five homesteads were subsequently built. These details give the neighbouring settlements their own distinct historical character.
