Zálší

Zálší combines cultural-historical discoveries with a landscape shaped by ponds and cycling routes. During your stay, you can therefore choose between technical monuments, protected cultural heritage sites and excursions along the Zálešské rybníky. The themes range from milling technology to the birdlife around the ponds.

Cultural Monuments with an Individual Character

A prominent attraction is the Betlém watermill on Lačnov Pond. It dates from around 1760 and is classified as a Category II technical monument. Betlém is also a half-timbered watermill with a three-part floor plan. The half-timbering, three-part floor plan and traditional milling technology give the building a clearly recognizable profile in addition to its age.

A second testament to the region’s architectural and everyday history is the fruit-drying facility at House No. 12 in Zálší. It is designated as a protected cultural monument.

Ponds and an Ornithological Landscape

Lačnov Pond lies west of Zálší and covers 15.72 hectares. Betlém watermill is located at Lačnov Pond, so landscape and cultural monument come together at this site as closely connected points of interest. At 55.91 hectares, Velký Zálešský rybník is significantly larger and forms another clearly distinguishable part of the region’s pond landscape. It is 40.19 hectares larger than Lačnov and more than three times its size.

The Zálešské rybníky between Zálší and Vračovice are important for fish farming and birdlife. Those interested in bodies of water, fish farming and birdlife will therefore find a different theme here than among the historic buildings. The ponds give your stay a landscape-focused character, while the monuments direct the cultural perspective toward Zálší and its surroundings.

Cycling between Zálší and the Ponds

Zálší also offers several routes for a cycling trip. European Cycle Route 182 from Moravská Třebová to Choceň passes through Zálší. In addition, the Sloupnice–Chotěšiny–Vračovice–Zálší section is part of the “Krajinou rybníků” cycling tour and is 7.7 km long; this section is designated as Cycle Route 182.

A shorter section of the “Krajinou rybníků” cycling tour runs between Zálší, Nořín and Podrážek and is 2.6 km long. This section is 5.1 km shorter than the 7.7-km section. The longer section is almost three times as long as the shorter one. The sequences of places also differ: the 7.7-km section runs through Sloupnice, Chotěšiny, Vračovice and Zálší, while the 2.6-km section runs through Zálší, Nořín and Podrážek.
