Kojice lies at the northernmost foothills of the Železné hory mountain range and combines a distinctive landscape with a long local history. From the northwestern part of Kojice, you can enjoy a view of the Elbe. At the same time, the Church of St. Peter and Paul, the former fortress and the historic Salt Route each tell a different chapter of the past. If you are planning a trip, you can combine culture, landscape and excursions in a variety of ways.

Landscape between the Elbe and country lanes

The view of the Elbe gives Kojice a special connection to the surrounding landscape. You can also combine a visit with the meanders of the old Elbe. These two points of interest appeal to different interests: you can focus your stay more on landscape impressions or complement historical sights with an excursion into the surrounding area. A visit to Kojice can also be combined with trips along country lanes to the neighboring municipalities. This allows you to plan a day that combines sightseeing in the village with time spent in the surrounding landscape, without having to commit to just one type of travel experience.

Church and fortress

The Church of St. Peter and Paul is a single-nave Romanesque building made of unrendered sandstone. Its history dates back to the end of the 12th century: it was during this period that a fortress and the church were built in Kojice. Inside the church, on the north wall by the chancel arch, there is a tall depiction of Saint Christopher with the Christ Child on his left shoulder. It dates from the 1260s to the 1270s and adds a specific art-historical detail to the building's architectural history.

The former fortress is also part of the village's history. Fortifications have been preserved on its southern and southwestern sides. The southern rampart reaches a height of up to 4 meters. The historical classification remains important: this is the former fortress of Kojice. If you are interested in medieval settlement development, you can trace the connection between the fortress, church and settlement history here, without reducing the place to a single building.

Historic routes as a reason to travel

The historic Salt Route ran around Kojice and was also known as the Trstenická Route. This name points to another historical layer of the village and makes trip planning interesting for visitors who want to learn not only about individual buildings but also about former connections and routes. Together with the church, fortifications and landscape landmarks, it creates a varied thematic way to explore Kojice.

When looking for accommodation in Kojice, it helps to decide on the focus of your trip in advance.
