Brloh – Quarry, Educational Trail and Local History

Brloh reveals unusual traces of geological and local history within a small area. At the center is the abandoned Brloh quarry, with its boulders and rock faces showing evidence of prehistory. These are complemented by a geological educational trail, the Brložský Trilobit event and its program, and the surviving terrain remains of a little-known fortified site. Quarry and geological educational trail

The Brloh quarry lies on the southwestern edge of Brloh in the valley of the Brložský potok, about 50 meters west of the built-up area. The geological feature can be described from the viewpoint above the quarry wall: there, quartz sandstone through quartzite transitions into conglomeratic sandstone containing worked quartz and lydite pebbles up to 1.5 centimeters in size. This sequence makes the viewpoint a concrete destination for anyone who wants to see rocks as more than just a landscape backdrop. Quartzite is a very hard, quartz-rich rock; conglomeratic sandstone contains coarser pebbles in a sandy rock mass.

The quarry is part of a geological educational trail that depicts the history of the Earth. The visible evidence of prehistory on the boulders and rock faces is also part of this thematic context. An important limitation is documented for orientation: the Brloh quarry is accessible across pathless terrain and lies more than 250 meters from the road.

The Brložský Trilobit

Another distinct point of reference is the Brložský Trilobit. The event is documented as having been held for the second time in 2016 and for the twelfth time in 2026. The twelfth edition began on August 29, 2026, with an educational trail from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thematic workshops are also documented for this date. Thus, alongside the geological characteristics of the quarry, the local setting of Brloh also offers an event-based exploration of trilobites and geological history.

Terrain remains of a fortified site

Near a pond in Brloh, terrain remains of the acropolis of a little-known fortified site have been preserved. The acropolis refers to the upper or central area of a fortified site. The area is occupied by House No. 27. This specific overlap between the preserved terrain remains and present-day buildings distinguishes the site from a free-standing, completely preserved structure. It is one of the local details that clearly differ from the quarry’s geological themes.

The Brložský potok

The Brložský potok flows through Brloh and empties into the Elbe. The Brloh quarry lies in the stream’s valley.
