Chýšť: Cycle Route 4272, Forests and Bohemian History

Chýšť combines a distinctive location with a varied landscape and surprising traces of Bohemian history. The village lies on the slope of Kačerov kopf and has a highly irregular settlement layout in the shape of a lying letter H. This unusual structure alone makes Chýšť a destination that can be explored not only through individual sights, but also through its location and surroundings.

Cycling between several villages

For an active excursion, the 11-km-long Cycle Route 4272 is an appealing option. It leads from Výrov via Sopřeč, Vápno and Malé Výkleky to Chýšť. In this way, the route connects several places and ends directly in Chýšť. Forests, ponds and an important stream

The landscape around Chýšť is characterised by several clearly distinguishable natural areas. About 0.5 km east of the village lies the Ohrádka Forest. The Vražednice Forest is located north of Chýšť; the Chýšťský Pond is nearby. The Hájenka Forest lies northwest of Chýšť beyond the main road, while the Záhumeník Pond is west of the village. This distribution of forests and ponds is particularly useful for orienting yourself when choosing individual walks or excursions: the landscape is not concentrated in a single location, but extends in different directions around the village. The Babidolský potok stream is also part of Chýšť’s natural character and is significant from a local hydrological perspective. Wildlife with a forest character

The local wildlife of Chýšť includes squirrels, hazel dormice, wood mice, bank voles, noctules, red foxes, badgers, wild boar and roe deer. Badgers are partly widespread; wild boar and roe deer are being observed increasingly often. This gives nature enthusiasts a concrete picture of the wildlife without reducing Chýšť to a single animal species. Archaeology and Bohemian history

Chýšť also has an archaeological dimension. During construction work on the D11 motorway in 2005, several building foundations and hearths were discovered in the cadastral area of Chýšť. The find was investigated beneath the Vražednice Forest at the current course of the motorway. This is where today’s infrastructure meets traces of earlier settlement. Another significant find is a hoard of Bohemian denarii dating from the end of the 10th century. It was discovered in the cadastral area of Chýšť near the northwestern border of the Pardubický kraj region. In 2020, the hoard was declared a movable cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It is permanently displayed in a treasury room of Pardubice Chateau, which visitors can see during a guided tour.
