Srch: Baroch Nature Reserve, Educational Trail and Pernštýnská Waterworks
Srch brings together nature observation, knowledge of the forest, historic water engineering and local traditions within a compact thematic area. When planning your trip, the question is less about a long list of sights and more about the experience you want: Would you like to explore an educational trail with interactive stations, observe the landscape around the water or learn about the history of the Pernštýnská Waterworks? Several documented community events also give the place its own distinctive character.
Forest, Water and Baroch Nature Reserve
The Baroch Nature Reserve is located nearby and covers areas in the cadastral territories of Srch and Hrobice. It is an important ornithological landscape with grazing areas for wild horses and buffalo. Thus, alongside the built-up area, a natural space takes center stage, where observing the landscape and wildlife offers a different focus from a purely cultural-historical stay.
A specific way to explore forest-related topics is the Srch Educational Trail. This entertaining trail provides information about life in the forest and has ten stations with information boards and interactive elements. It begins behind the football field in Srch. This combination of a clearly defined starting point, stations and hands-on elements makes the trail easy to understand as an independent excursion destination, without requiring an extensive list of sights.
Vraťák Between Nature and Documented Events
Rybník Olšina (Vraťák) is a popular habitat for several amphibian species, especially the marsh frog and the fire-bellied toad. At the same time, a specific restriction applies at Rybník Olšina (Vraťák): fishing is only possible with a special permit. This rule is part of understanding the site and should not be confused with general unrestricted fishing opportunities.
On April 26, 2026, a traditional fishing course for children with disabilities took place at Vraťák Pond in Srch. In addition, the traditional “O stříbrný háček” fishing competition organized by the municipality of Srch took place at Vraťák in Srch for the 19th time on June 14, 2025. The two dates show different types of events connected with the same location, without making any statement about future dates.
Historical Traces in Srch
The Pernštýnská Waterworks in Srch is an underground waterworks facility dating from 1515. It was built under William II of Pernstein and served as a water reservoir supplying the fountain in Pardubice’s town square as well as Pardubice Castle. The Pernštýnská vodárna is registered in Srch as an immovable cultural monument under the Czech registration number 51001/6-6193. This gives your stay a clear cultural-historical focus that differs from the natural themes around Baroch and Vraťák.
Another marked memorial site is Panchártkova’s pear tree. It was declared a memorial tree on April 7, 2004. Srch therefore features both an underground water-engineering structure connected with the history of Pardubice and an individual tree with officially recognized memorial status, representing different forms of local heritage.
Traditions for Different Age Groups
At the traditional “Strašidelná stezka” event in Srch on November 15, 2025, there was a mysterious labyrinth for younger children as well as a forest route for older children and adults. At the traditional “Příjezd Martina na bílém koni” event in Srch on November 8, 2025, there was a lantern procession as well as songs and poems performed by children. These past examples show that local events can appeal both to separate age groups and to shared community traditions.
