Uhřičice between Local History and Water Landscape

Uhřičice combines a clearly recognizable local history with an unusually diverse water landscape. The municipality was first mentioned in writing in 1131. Its historic center features a broad linear settlement structure, known as an “ulicovka.” The historic surroundings of Uhřičice were designated a heritage zone effective December 31, 2019. The combination of the year, heritage zone, and settlement form means that the historic character is not defined by just one building, but by the structure of the village.

Baroque Traces in the Village

The village square is home to the statue group of Saint Florian. This valuable Baroque work dates from 1742 and was created by the Olomouc sculptor Antonín Heinz. Another Baroque sight can be found on the road to Kojetín: A wayside shrine depicts Saint Florian and the baptism of Jesus. The village square and the road to Kojetín offer two different starting points for a culturally focused visit. Together with the linear structure of the historic center, these details give the exploration of Uhřičice a cultural focus.

Rivers, Ditches, and Technical Structures

The landscape of Uhřičice includes the Morava and Valová rivers, the Boleloucký millrace, and the Strž, a wooded side branch of the Bečva. It also includes a flooded former sand-extraction site, the Čvachůvka grove with a spring, and intensively cultivated farmland. What is particularly characteristic of exploring the landscape is the interplay between farmland, a wooded side branch, a spring, and waterways. The landscape thus presents different forms of water, woodland, and cultivated land within a compact thematic area.

A special destination is the Uhřičický Sifon. From Uhřičice, you can reach it directly via a yellow-marked hiking trail; by bicycle, cycle route 5040 leads there, connecting Tovačov and Kojetín. The hiking trail and cycle route 5040 therefore provide two ways to include this technical landmark in your own exploration. The siphon is a technical structure through which the Boleloucký millrace passes beneath the Valová River. About 800 meters to the south lies the Vantroky aqueduct, another water crossing on the Boleloucký millrace in the cadastral area of the municipality of Uhřičice. Its present-day concrete bed dates from 1923.

Route along the Morava and Railway Tradition

The Uhřičický Sifon is also a stop on the excursion route “Po břehu Moravy ke Kojetínu a dál…” (“Along the banks of the Morava to Kojetín and beyond…”). Uhřičice’s participation in the Hanácké léto na kolejích project adds another distinctive element. As part of this project, historic trains operate on the Tovačov railway line to promote tourism and support cultural and social events in the communities along the route. Currently, only freight trains operate on the Kojetín–Tovačov railway line; the historic train tradition is therefore part of a separate project context. When planning, it is important to distinguish between the project involving historic trains and the current freight traffic on the line.
