Lhota: History, Chapel and Cycling Connections

Lhota combines a long local history with archaeological traces, a restored chapel and several described cycling routes. The first written mention of Lhota dates from 1275 and is associated with Petr z Kozařiny Lhoty. In 1447, Lhota belonged to the Helfštýn estate. A notable testimony to the local history is the Chapel of St. Wenceslas, which the inhabitants built in 1834. It was restored in summer 2020; weddings can be held in the restored chapel.

Another noteworthy historical object is the “Historická stříkačka – koňka” (“Historical Horse-Drawn Fire Engine”). This historical horse-drawn fire engine was brought from Brno to Lhota in 1895 and solemnly consecrated. Archaeological Traces on the Slope

The “Za Humny” archaeological site lies on a gently south-sloping hillside towards the right bank of the Šišemka stream. During a surface survey conducted there on 9 June 2013, fragments of Linear Pottery culture, a small amount of chipped stone industry and a very well-preserved perforated axe were found. Linear Pottery culture refers to an early farming culture. The site complements the medieval and more recent evidence with a significantly older chronological layer.

Cycling Between Lhota and the Neighboring Villages

Two routes for cycling tours pass through Lhota or lead from there to neighboring villages. After 3.5 km from its start, cycling route No. 5035 from Týn nad Bečvou to Ratiboř passes through Lhota. It is described as a moderately difficult, signposted road route with an asphalt surface and is suitable for all types of bicycles. Cycling route No. 6137 connects Lhota with Soběchleby and Blazice.
