Sobíšky: Historical Traces and Trails

Sobíšky combines a clearly recognizable local history with small religious structures, distinctive evidence of local traditions and marked trails. Those travelling to the Czech Republic who are looking not only for a well-known centre but also for specific discoveries will find several points of interest here: history in the village, destinations along the roads into the surrounding area and a hiking trail starting at the bus station.

History and Religious Structures

The oldest written mention of Sobíšky dates from a document dated 3 November 1275. Historically, Sobíšky was the centre of the self-governing Půhončí community. This past remains tangible in individual buildings and places of remembrance.

The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua is particularly prominent. It was built in 1660 by the judge Jan Pavlíček, is in the Baroque style and has been extensively restored. The restoration included the altar, the benches on both sides and the choir. Services are held in the chapel only for the Feast of Saint Anthony on 13 June. The statue of Saint Augustine was restored and placed on a pedestal beside the chapel.

Further architectural features are scattered throughout the village and along its roads. Bašta is a cylindrical stone lime kiln below the transformer station near “Dvůr”. The Drbalova Chapel is now called the Kolářova Chapel and stands on the road to Lazníky. The Jarošova Chapel is located on the road to Zábeštní Lhota, near the highest point in the municipality. Půhončí House No. 14 has a preserved partikus on its façade, meaning a column-supported entrance hall with a flat ceiling. The various locations lead from the area near “Dvůr” along the roads into the surrounding area to a historic residential building in the village.

Dvůrů Castle and Excursions on Foot or by Bike

Dvůrů Castle stands above Sobíšky. Its present appearance dates from 1842; the castle is not accessible. The castle’s current form is therefore considerably younger than the Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua, built in 1660. Nevertheless, Dvůrů Castle remains a prominent point of reference in the local history, alongside the chapels and historic buildings.

Sobíšky belongs to the Pobečví microregion, through which the Jantarová stezka long-distance cycle route runs. From it, further interesting routes lead towards the Oderské vrchy and Hostýnské vrchy. A yellow-marked hiking trail also begins at the bus station in Sobíšky and leads towards Vinařský les. This gives Sobíšky both long-distance cycling routes and a marked hiking trail starting in the village, offering two different forms of excursion.

Events and Wine-Growing Region

The Hody festival in Sobíšky will take place from 11 to 13 June 2027. The date overlaps with the Feast of Saint Anthony on 13 June, when services are held in the chapel. In addition, the cadastral area of Sobíšek is one of the two officially recognized wine-growing locations in the Olomoucký kraj.
