Discover Oprostovice
Oprostovice between Lipník nad Bečvou and Bystřice pod Hostýnem
Oprostovice lies between Lipník nad Bečvou and Bystřice pod Hostýnem in a north-south orientation. This location gives you a clear geographical reference when choosing the village as a starting point for a trip involving cultural discoveries and cycling. The village landscape is shaped by small religious structures, historic crosses and individual memorial sites.
Chapels and traces of church history
In the centre of Oprostovice stands the Chapel of the Virgin Mary with a four-sided bell tower. The Chapel of Our Lady of Hostýn dates from around 1750 to before 1830 and is assigned to the stylistic period of the late Baroque and Classicism. It served for field services praying for a good harvest. Since 5 December 2019, the Chapel of Our Lady of Hostýn with its cross in Oprostovice has been listed as a protected cultural monument under registration number 106445.
The details surrounding the chapel also tell of different periods. The stone cross next to the Chapel of Our Lady of Hostýn was erected in 1871 and later altered. An inscription from 1947 names the Štěpánová family from Oprostovice as its donor. The chapel with its bell tower also bears a memorial plaque commemorating the local theologian and writer ThDr. Bohumil Zlámal. ThDr. Bohumil Zlámal, who came from Oprostovice, wrote 190 works on church history.
Wayside shrine, crosses and views towards the horizon
A wayside shrine stands on the upper edge of Oprostovice. In a glazed display case, it contains a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes; a stone cross is located at the top of its column. From the wayside shrine, the view reaches as far as the Hostýnské vrchy hills on the horizon. This small place of devotion thus combines a specific religious detail with a wide view over the surrounding area.
Further stone crosses add to the local landmarks. The Jančík family’s stone cross dates from 1859. A stone cross dating from 1847 stands at the exit from Oprostovice towards Radotín. Those who take a close look at such inconspicuous but dated signs along the way discover local history not only in a single structure, but in several places throughout the village.
