Citov – Chateau, Morávka and Trails through Haná

Citov lies in the flat, fertile landscape of Haná, about 10 km west of Přerov, on the left bank of a river branch called the Morávka. In the western part of the village lies the Hrubý floodplain forest, along the edge of which the Morávka winds in meanders. Water, forest and local history shape the discoveries around Citov.

Chateau, Park and Historical Monuments

The Empire-style chateau in Citov was completed in 1845 as the residence of Tobiáš Pauspertl of Drachenthal. Inside, it features rich ceiling paintings in delicate pastel shades. The chateau is surrounded by a naturally and architecturally landscaped park used for cultural and social purposes. The restored eastern, western and southern sections of the chateau park are accessible to cyclists and visitors; the park is open to the public year-round. In front of the chateau stands a Romantic-style statue of a girl from the late 19th century, which is classified as an immovable cultural monument.

Educational Trails by the Water

The educational trail in Citov is a 1.2 km walking route with five information-board stops. It runs from the Citov chateau building to a sack weir on the Morávka watercourse behind the mill. The stops provide information about the history of the chateau grounds and park, the Church of Saint George, the municipal apartment building constructed after the severe floods of 1997, the water mill with its millrace, and the sack weir, which serves to protect the municipality from flooding.

FIT Trail and Routes for Different Interests

Outside the municipality lies the FIT trail, with seven stations along a route approximately 700 m long. It runs along a paved road beside the historic mill and millrace to the sack weir. In places, it follows an older, stony section of a farm track toward Odpadník. The stations feature exercise instructions, graphic illustrations, information, children’s puzzles and QR codes linking to instructional videos; the trail is easily accessible to visitors. A cycle route leads from Citov via Císařov to Rokytnice.

Mill, Church and Musical Distinctions

The water mill in Citov dates from 1739 and is one of the oldest mills in Moravia. The parish Church of Saint George was renovated in 1735 and later extended with an addition behind the altar. Its furnishings include a pneumatic organ, which was the first organ of its kind in Moravia at the time; it was built by Neusser of Nový Jičín.

Events Connected with the Village

The traditional Masopustní vodění medvěda event includes ritual stations, a dance celebration and the ceremony of the “burial of the bass”. The Hodové slavnosti festivities include a church mass, fairground rides for children and, above all, family gatherings. During the annual Pohádková cesta Hrubým lesem, the forest and the field paths behind Citov become the setting for an outdoor children’s event. The recurring Odemykání Morávky event takes place at the Citov mill on the Morávka watercourse.
