Cultural Traces in Radotín

The history of the place can be traced in written sources back to 1447. It becomes even more tangible in the stone crosses. The 1890 cross was erected at the expense of Josef Čech and his wife Barbora in memory of their deceased daughter Františka. Another stone cross was erected in 1855 at the expense of Antonín Lesák and the local inhabitants.

A stone cross with a memorial plaque commemorating the First World War was erected in 1872, renewed and rebuilt in 1923, and restored in 2004. It commemorates the soldiers from Radotín who fell in the First World War. This sequence of construction, rebuilding and restoration also makes the memorial site a testimony to different periods.

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is another part of the local heritage. It was built in 1952 and dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. The chapel contains a bell cast in 1802 by the Olomouc bell founder Antonín Jan Alois Obletter. Another historical point of reference is the Na Zákaplí cross, erected in 1904 at the expense of the Hindová family. It stands on the site of an earlier chapel that served for prayer and provided shelter for travellers and hermits.

The area's older settlement history is also represented: Mesla, U Kříže is a documented archaeological site in Radotín. Evidence has been found there of a Neolithic settlement as well as settlements of the La Tène and Púchov cultures. For visitors interested not only in visible structures but also in the deeper historical layers of a place, this site adds an archaeological dimension to the picture of Radotín.

Štěrbice, Water and Quiet Paths

The Radotínský potok stream flows from north to south through the cadastral area of Radotín. In the Štěrbice Valley, this creates varied waterside scenery with quiet corners and small bodies of water. The valley is recommended for walks and quiet appreciation of nature. It is therefore suitable for a stay that leaves time for a slower experience of the landscape alongside the historical impressions.

The Na Zákaplí cross also offers a view of part of Záhoří. From this spot, the path invites you to continue to a nearby spring or to Helfštýn Castle. In this way, a visit to a single memorial site can be combined with an idea for a longer walk, without losing sight of the cultural starting point.
