A permanent exhibition, the park on Křížový vrch and a nature trail offer different starting points for exploring the town. History and Architectural Heritage

The Moravský Beroun Tourist Information Centre houses the permanent exhibition “History of Moravský Beroun”, installed there on 1 June 2021. It offers a concrete introduction to the town’s history and complements visits to the historic buildings with its own cultural focus. As a result, exploring Moravský Beroun does not have to begin with the churches or the traces on Křížový vrch.

Křížový vrch is located in Moravský Beroun in a five-hectare park. The remains of Šternberků Castle, dating from 1339, have been preserved there. The foundation stone of the Baroque pilgrimage chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows was also laid on Křížový vrch on 16 July 1752. Common and rare tree species grow in the park. Historical evidence and a variety of trees can therefore be found in the same park area. The extensive park combines medieval and Baroque points of reference with varied vegetation.

The Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Moravský Beroun was built between 1606 and 1610 in the Renaissance style and remodelled in the 1840s in the late Empire style. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Moravský Beroun dates from 1754. Its present appearance is based on plans by the architect Mikuláš Thalherr from Fulnek. These churches illustrate different construction periods and stylistic phases. The parish church also shows how an older building evolved through a later renovation.

Nature Trail, Nature and Views

The Křížový a Kočičí vrch circular route begins at the bus station in Moravský Beroun. The Křížový a Kočičí vrch nature trail is intended for hiking and provides insights into the fauna and flora of the town park and the surrounding open countryside. It also provides information about architectural and artistic sights in Moravský Beroun and its surroundings. The landscape highlights include magnificent views of the peaks of the Hrubý Jeseník range, including Praděd. The starting point helps with orientation for an excursion that combines observing nature, architecture and distant views. This allows you to experience the route from both a scenic and a cultural perspective.

The facilities along the nature trail are also described in detail: an old quarry has a covered seating area with a fire pit, as well as five further covered stations with benches. These spots provide clearly identifiable opportunities to take a break along the route. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross also serves as a venue for exhibitions and concerts. When planning your visit, you can therefore consider historic architecture, outdoor activities and cultural events as separate focal points.
