Hlušovice: cycling route, ponds and local discoveries

Hlušovice combines a distinctive cycling route with ponds, a Neo-Gothic church and small cultural discoveries. There are also events that bring the village to life at different times: open-air cinema, kite flying, workshops and a Goulash Festival are just as much part of the documented local character as a leisure area with an unusual maritime design. By bicycle to the ponds and Maják

Hlušovice is the first stop on the cycling route from Olomouc to Šternberk; the route leads there to a pond in the village centre. This course connects the village with a specific landscape feature and makes Hlušovice a clearly identifiable stop along the route. Willows grow beside a second pond in Hlušovice, and a water sprite figure stands on an island. The two ponds described here have different characteristics: one lies along the cycling route in the village centre, while the other stands out for its vegetation and the figure.

Another special feature is Maják Hlušovice, a leisure area on the Hvězdná cycling path (Olomouc–Šternberk). It includes a restaurant housed in a replica naval vessel, a stylish Captain Club and a lighthouse. The combination of a cycle path, maritime architecture and leisure facilities gives this section a distinctive character. The municipal sports complex in the centre of Hlušovice also includes a tennis court. Church and historic small monuments

The Church of St Peter and Paul is in operation and belongs to the Bohuňovice parish. The Neo-Gothic Church of St Peter and Paul in Hlušovice was completed in 1926. For visitors interested in culture, the church complements the scenic destinations and activities around the cycling route.

History can also be seen in smaller forms along the roads and paths. On the road to Dolany stands a more than 200-year-old Baroque wayside shrine with a triangular ground plan. Another wayside shrine was erected in 1795 in memory of a severe hailstorm. The two wayside shrines tell of local remembrance in different ways: one is characterised by its age and unusual shape, while the other is defined by the reason for its construction.

Events featuring cinema, kites and goulash

Letní kino Hlušovice was held in 2024 and 2026 as an open-air cinema at the municipal sports field, with refreshments available. The sports field thus serves not only as a place for exercise but also as an outdoor event venue. At the Drakiáda in Hlušovice on 7 October 2023, there was communal kite flying, inflatable attractions for children, a kite trail, workshops and a puppet theatre. The programme combined several activities in a single day and explicitly included offerings for children.

The Goulash Festival in Hlušovice also took place on 7 October 2023. The programme included goulash tastings, the selection of a winner and a raffle.
