Discover Dlouhá Loučka

Dlouhá Loučka combines an impressive local history with landscapes on the edge of Sovinecko Nature Park. Between the castle park, church complex, museums and protected natural areas, it offers a destination where cultural discoveries and walks come together within a small geographical area. Particularly noteworthy are the traces of the castle, unusual collections and historical details dating back to the Renaissance.

Castle History and Historical Traces

Dlouhá Loučka Castle was built as a Baroque castle in 1708–1709 and served as the summer residence of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order. During the Napoleonic Wars, it was a military hospital with 600 beds. The castle’s history therefore represents not only prestigious architecture but also the changing uses of the site in different eras.

The Church of St. Bartholomew complex includes a structural core dating from the 15th century, with later alterations. It also contains 19th-century sepulchral sculptures, meaning sculptural works associated with commemorating the dead. A stone cross was moved from its former location at the bridge over the Oslava to the church complex. On the slope below Křivá in Dlouhá Loučka, a monument also commemorates the victims of the Napoleonic Wars.

Museums with Unusual Collections

A special attraction is the Království historických kočárků at Plinkout 41, Dlouhá Loučka 783 86. The collection includes historic prams and doll’s prams from 1860 to 1989. The museum is open on Saturdays from 10:00 to 17:00; visits on other days are possible by prior telephone appointment. The broad time span makes the exhibition an illustrative insight into the development of these everyday objects.

The museum in Dlouhá Loučka is located in the building of the second Loučský Castle, which now houses the municipal office. It displays salvaged murals left on the walls of the local dilapidated castle by captured French officers during the Second World War. It also features paintings created by French officers in Dlouhá Loučka, including a unique painted plan of the entire castle.

Sovinecko Nature Park and Castle Park

Dlouhá Loučka Castle Park lies at the eastern end of the village and is enclosed by a boundary wall. The surrounding area also offers clear landscape reference points: the four cadastral areas of Dolní Dlouhá Loučka, Horní Dlouhá Loučka, Křivá and Plinkout partly extend into Sovinecko Nature Park. Parts of the cadastral areas of Horní Dlouhá Loučka and Křivá also belong to the Sovinec European protected area.

Habitats in the Dlouhá Loučka area include beech and beech-fir forests, riparian vegetation, rocks, standing waters and streams in the trout zone. The 23rd Pochod přírodním parkem Sovinecko is also relevant when planning excursions: it started and finished on 9 May 2026 in Dlouhá Loučka Castle Park. Another small historical point of interest is a quartz millstone in front of a local shop in Dlouhá Loučka. It originally lay in the castle park; experts suspect that it was used to grind silver ore before smelting.
