Discover Jívová: Culture and Nature in the Bystřice Valley

Jívová combines an impressive cultural history with a protected landscape. At its heart is the Baroque church complex of “Kostel sv. Bartoloměje”, while the Bystřice Valley, with its forests, rock formations and a particularly appealing section of the valley, offers a completely different experience. Baroque church with a remarkable collection of monuments

The church complex of “Kostel sv. Bartoloměje” in Jívová is registered as an immovable cultural monument in the Central Register of Monuments of the Czech Republic. The Baroque church was built between 1717 and 1720. Its interior contains several paintings, particularly frescoes by the Olomouc Baroque painter Jan Kryštof Handke. Frescoes are wall paintings applied directly to plaster and give the interior an additional art-historical dimension.

The church complex also includes a low rubble-stone wall around the former cemetery, with two built entrance gates. A mortuary chapel with a hipped roof is also part of the complex. The ensemble therefore offers several distinct details: the Baroque construction period, the interior paintings and the preserved elements around the former cemetery. What makes it special is its chronological range: at the same site, evidence of a Late Bronze Age fortification stands alongside the remains of a medieval castle. The Bystřice Valley: Protected landscape around Jívová

The protected Bystřice Valley area covers the cadastral territory of Jívová and has an area of 751 hectares. The area contains preserved beech and scree forests, as well as rock formations, frost cliffs and block streams. These terms describe a landscape in which wooded sections stand alongside striking geological features.
