Těškovice between forests, hills and theatre

Těškovice combines a varied hilly landscape with forests, viewpoints and a remarkably vibrant cultural life. Anyone wishing to combine nature, activity and local history will find a range of options for planning their day: walks and hikes in the countryside, a cycle route, and the church and amateur theatre as cultural points of interest.

Hilly landscape with wide-ranging views

Těškovice lies at elevations between 291 and 460 metres. The highest point is Mečník / Mezník. From the highest points near Těškovice, there are views of the Beskids, Ostrava’s industrial area and the spa town of Klimkovice. The surroundings therefore appear not as a uniform plain, but as a landscape with varying elevations and distant views.

One of the two valleys surrounding Těškovice is the Jamník Valley. In the vicinity of the town, there is also a recreational centre in the Setina Valley, on the edge of the Oderské vrchy Nature Park. The wooded landscape of the nature park invites visitors to take walks all year round and is suitable for mushroom picking in late summer and autumn.

Hiking and cycling around the town

For an active day plan, Těškovice offers two clearly distinct landscape experiences: paths through the forests and a cycle route passing through several towns. Cycle Route 6193 leads from Bílovec via Tísek and Těškovice to Pustá Polom. From Těškovice, it follows Road II/465 towards Vyškovice and turns into the forest at a signposted tourist trail junction. Anyone wishing not to limit a cycling tour to the town itself can thus include various sections and place names in their planning.

The local community life also embraces cycling: TJ Sokol Těškovice organises a traditional uphill time trial. This sporting event adds another way to experience the landscape—not only on walks, but also as part of a competition.

Church, history and theatre

A prominent cultural landmark is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1863 in the Neo-Gothic style. The first written records of Těškovice’s existence date from 1377. The traditional theatre festival “Těškovické jaro” plays a special role. It presents theatre productions by ensembles from the surrounding area and beyond. With the Berani amateur theatre ensemble, Těškovice also has its own long-standing theatrical tradition: the experienced ensemble performs at amateur theatre competitions, co-organises the “Těškovické jaro” showcase and has been dedicated continuously to amateur theatre since 1949. For travel planning, this creates a cultural focus that extends beyond individual sights.

Getting there and planning a suitable stay

Bus routes connect Těškovice with Bílovec and Opava, as well as with Skřípov and Ostrava. When continuing your search for a hotel or other accommodation, you can therefore first consider whether hikes, a cycling tour, landscape views or a cultural event should be your main focus. Těškovice offers several different points of interest for this, without requiring nature and cultural experiences to be combined in the same day’s programme.
